I always read that Rugani is highly rated but I will take Klaus words for it. When I see Mustafi name associated with any defender of any nationality it's a no-no.

I rather get that beast of a defender from Olympiakos or some talented defender from South America like Duerte who signed for Milan.

Wonder if we missed a trick with Vallejo who gone to Wolves.

Clrnc, I think it was Klaus who used to rave about Rugani and wanted him here like 3 or 4 years ago. Guy must have been really shit for his stock to have fallen so much so quickly.

Rugani and Romagnoli were the two Serie A talents from couple years ago to get. The latter was very error prone and seemed much less likely to make it, now they both made a 180° in their development it seems

Vallejo is a bigger talent than both, he played for Frankfurt as a 18 year old and nailed a starting spot immediately. Problem with him is hes very injury prone, even so Madrid don't want to let him go on loan with a buying option even if it's a rich club like Wolves.

Yeah, Rugani was considered the future of both the Italian national team and Juventus just a few short years ago. And as so often is the case with these predestined careers, it didn't shake out that way.

At 25 I just wouldn't touch him. Holding needs those minutes, and if he's injured I'd rather give them to Chambers. There's no upside to keeping one of Juve's players fit for them while they're enjoying De Ligt.

Remember in the A-M days you were raving week in week out about Ranocchia and to a lesser extent his partner Bonucci the Bari pair. Then their career turned out opposite, the highly rated Ranocchia faltered while Bonucci became world class.

Italy is full of defensive talents but many had inconsistent trajectory like Barzagli who was awful in Germany.

Ranocchia was such a weird one. Had all the tools to be the new Nesta. Instead he ended up going on loan to Hull at 30, when he should have hit his prime.

I see Rugani being compared to Mustafi, but I've always seen him a defender more in the style of someone like Rob Holding: Tall, smart, doesn't dive in, reads the game well, a little slow on the turn but can shift when up and running, quite good on the ball.

Perhaps he's had a rough time, but has he really turned into a player as overly-aggressive and prone to cock-ups because of it as Mustafi?

He's just a bit shit. I think that's where the Mustafi comparison (which I assume was jokingly stated) comes from.

Really, Rugani is not a good player, and I think people who would be pleased with him coming, on loan or otherwise, have been duped by his past youth reputation and his current club address. Do a twitter or reddit search; the Juventus fans are begging to get rid of him. Like with any player there's always a small chance that he could end up proving everyone wrong of course, but it's very unlikely, which makes it a bad bet - especially when we need quality to strengthen the defence.

Fingers crossed that Roma will buy him and save us from doing something stupid.
