Have read the suggestion that this was / is the intent to only sell to non-domestic clubs after the domestic window closes.
If the in-coming deals are anything to go by then it should be interesting to say the least.

at this point, the obvious wish would be

tierney
sell mustafi and buy a better CB
sell xhaka and mkh and use those combined funds to buy a better CM
sell ozil and take whatever we can get for him

rest of the squad looks good, some quality young players to get minutes as well. slightly worried we dont have a real backup keeper. maybe use some of the ozil funds there. i mean im joking because there is no possible way we can sell ozil, but yeah

TBH if this Pepe deal lands then I wouldn't put it past our new structure to be able to do anything - all they need is to find someone to play along with them. I'd not be surprised if the priority was to work on our major incoming signing for the summer whilst the market thought we were broke, and selling any of our 'surplus' would have compromised that strategy.

There were posts in the past about how we could structure a 100m+ deal for Dembele last summer by looking at a loan season and an agreed purchase price. This summer we are doing something close in terms of payment schedules to be able to sign Pepe. If we were willing to take a reduced fee to offset wages on instalments then Ozil & Co then become viable & even more so if we are willing to subsidise wages for the balance of his contract.

This is honestly such a bad idea. He is making the kind of mistakes a 20 year old should be making. What you have to believe is that we would be able to get him back to where he should be. A bit like Mustafi, four or five years ago he promised to be a good defender for his national team and then it all fell apart. So you'd be scouting him based on his early promise, not his recent efforts. A bit like buying Bailly essentially.

On loan though, Claude? The absolute best scenario is that we straighten out his clown shoes a little bit in time for him to return to Juve who'll then benefit from it. But I kinda doubt it will happen - what kind of maniac would go from Juventus to Arsenal to learn to defend?

There are some mitigating circumstances for Rugani - he's been injured a bit, and when their form dropped last season he was suddenly tasked with replacing not one but two Juventus legends - but he has been a disappointment for the last few years. It's also worth pointing out that he's not that young anymore. He's in his mid20s now. He's also typical Italian in that he's more suited to a tactical game than the high tempo and passing-out-of-the-back football in Premier League.

That's the main worry, Klaus. We have systematically been shit since Sol left at halftime and reappeared at a waffle shop in Belgium. We cannot be trusted to rehabilitate a low-on-confidence defender when we start with two injured first-choice fullbacks and in Sokratis a leader who is talented but short-tempered and hyperactive.

As you say, the age and physical attributes are there in Rugani. On paper he is the right fit, but we would need him to regain his confidence quickly. We also need to factor in that we have all these kids who need a steady hand.

If a man can defend at the Arsenal he can defend anywhere! Sounds like considering we won't have much money left he'll be the best we can get in. To buy a decent defender you'll be looking at £30m+ and doesn't look we'll have that kind of money available.

He turns 25 tomorrow, didn't realise he was that old, still thought he was 21/22! At this age he should really be nearing the peak of his powers, just had a quick google and a lot of mixed comments about him by Juve fans to say the least!

We would also need Mustafi out the door. We have Liverpool, Spurs, United relatively quickly early on. Sokratis could have a red card suspension by the United game. Imagine Rugani-Mustafi.
