I have read recent comments that he is much like a combo of Cazorla/Rambo/Torreira/Guendouzi in that he is tenacious, has technical ability and likes to move the ball forward with purpose - other than not being a 'name' I'm not sure what else we'd be looking for at CM.
Yeah, player comparisons are rarely accurate, but there's one aspect of Ramsey's game that Bennacer shares, and it's the kind of drive that Aaron has. You saw his impact even more clearly last season where Emery mostly benched him. Whenever Ramsey came on he started pushing the whole team up from deep in the field. I always felt that ability made him invaluable to our football.
I think Bennacer gets compared to Cazorla because he's small (wiki says he's 1.75 but I'm almost certain he's a few centimeters shorter) and a good dribbler, but Cazorla never learned to play central midfield in my opinion. He was half of a good player there which is why we needed Coquelin next to him. Bennacer thrived in Serie A last season by comparison, and that's not an easy thing to do, especially not for a poor side like Empoli. It's tactically demanding football, and dribbly players like him tend to get pushed forward or benched. The fact that he became the heartbeat of their team, and at such a young age (he was 20 when the 18/19 season started; he only turned 21 in December) speaks volumes.
