His biggest issue to me is that he keeps making these surging runs forward at the expense of his defensive duties. It makes him very dangerous when Napoli are on the break but he also gets caught a lot. I think it'd be an issue with us; we neither have great defenders to surround him with nor a team that is capable of winning the ball back quickly.

I think he's the sort of player who'd make the defence at Barcelona go up a level, or maybe Juve two years back: teams that are already great and just need a few finishing touches of excellence. We should probably look elsewhere though, especially with the fees that are being suggested.

I think you're well off to be honest. Napoli have no defenders worth talking about other than him Ghoulam aside, hes basically keeping their backline together by himself. Ospina behind him isn't exactly one for organising a defensive line either. I dont think he makes too many of those runs either, he's Lucio like in that aspect. Think Napoli have the second best defence this season too

He'd be easily as good for us as van Dijk for Pool. Played poorly against us but against most other top teams he was quality, including against Salah Mane and the like

I agree with Jones on Koulibaly. He's a class defender holding a top-heavy team together. He would look great on a much more complete unit.

However, I would not spend £100m on him. We have a Swiss cheese squad with too many needs. Let's stabilise the patient first with a haul like Pepe and Konate for more or less the same amount to address two big gaps. I'd rather get 2-3 really high quality players and see trajectory.

Just read somewhere that Ziyech has a release clause for 25m & Sarr is thought to be available for about the same price = that's more likely to be the sort of player & spending we will see. IMO the only way we are likely to spend big (50m+) on anyone will be if we secure CL football for next season, AND we offload some of our top earners - Oail, Mkhi & Kola (I do not see the point in Kola being our 3rd highest earner if he is not a starting player anymore that Ozil or Mkhi).

Anzac, I mentioned such a combination elsewhere - Ziyech + Sarr. I think it’s realistic. Unfortunately after 2 years in Europa and with an owner who isn’t investing, we have lost a lot of financial ground (_100m pounds) in the transfer market. Ziyech and Sarr would work, with two players who still have lots of upside.

I’d keep Kola another year. There’s so much work to do on this squad. I think Mkhi and Ozil are a bigger danger, along with the StatDNA duo.

Why would anyone bid more? They have to accept all bids that trigger the clause, after that it's all on Ziyech himself. He won't choose a club based on who pays Ajax more, he'll care about his wages.

To be fair we did the same thing with Torreira last season, paid 5m more than the clause to Sampdoria to get in ahead of the competition.

I think it would be more likely that agreeing a deal allows more scope for structuring it in a way that suits. If a clause is activated I would suspect the fee becomes payable, which probably isn't a big deal for the huge clubs but would have more of an impact for others.

Sarr was brought by his club for about 20m euros.

I don't think 25m would even be considered in a negotiation.

As far as I know Rodgers commented that he thought Cavani's fee was a fair amount which was about 50-55m in regards to Suarez.

He was bought for 15m pounds 2 years ago. 25m pounds is 1.7x money in 2 years. That's a good return.
