Another possibility is to buy a player who we actually want (e.g. someone who's out of Palace's price range) but may not be ready to play for us and loan him there for a season.

Depends if Mislintant thinks he's got the quality and if Sanllehi thinks he's worth the fee and wages.

So far as wingers go there is a decent range of choice - Dembele, Malcom, Martial, Pepe, Sarr, Bailey, Pavon, Saint-Maximin, Traore etc.

Sterling is a free agent in the summer(?) and is also reported to be an AFC supporter when he was signed by LFC.

However he is still HG which is what really drives that 'English' value, rather than any nationality.

I really wish we had found a way to wrangle Martial this past January. That guy is going to achieve his potential. Just watch

Not unless either he or Mourinho leaves MU he won't.

Thinking of Sanllehi's comments about needing to be very efficient about what we do in terms of the squad and transfers, I don't think we're actually in the market for any of the known or established names unless as a bargain opportunity presents. IMO we are more Sarr than Martial or Zaha etc, although I still have a sneaky hold out for the likes of Pavon & Co who will be at the end of their seasons rather than in the middle of the UEFA season.

Have you been watching United this year? Mourinho is slowly coming to his senses and finding ways to help Pogba, Martial, Shaw and Mata be more effective. It's amazing that he has under-exploited all of them. Martial is becoming much more effective. He is still making a few mistakes of making some wrong choices on counters - going himself, misplacing the pass - but he is so dynamic and dangerous right now. He will be fine.

De Ligt probably knows that he can go to Barcelona if he wants to, which he does. What about Skriniar, is he out of our reach?

We're basically banking on Barcelona's ineptitude in the market which to be fair gives us a chance, I mean they're considering selling Dembele. Also they have Pique (which they won't sell or drop permanently), Umtiti and Lenglet - if they sign De Ligt we should be at least trying to get one of the two Frenchmen. Umtiti is world class on his day as well and seems unsettled because of his wages while Lenglet seems like an actual possibility because of his comparably lower profile but would have us sorted at LCB for a good decade or so.

Skriniar is great but out of our price range, his agent said months ago that some English club (allegedly City) tried and failed with a 70m-ish bid last winter.

Inter have mega rich owners who are in the middle of a massive investment project. There's no way he's going anywhere unfortunately. I actually think he's slightly overrated though. There's better value in Serie A.

I thought Dembele had hit it off well this season? I've barely watched Barca this past year though.

He had a good game against Madrid. Came off the bench, and ran at the Madrid bench, helping create two very good goals. He also had a great start, but in the intervening games he has had difficulty integrating with the motion offense.
