Mbappe and Ronaldo are once in a generation type talents, or at least potentially in the case of the former. It would be great to be able to nab someone of that profile but more realistically it would be fine to sign the players who fall a level below that and most of those guys are attainable. I think what would attract young players who fit that bracket is seeing someone like Guendouzi go straight into the starting XI, rather than go to a club like Madrid, PSG, United or City and spend time on the bench or out on loan. Having a rep for developing young talent and turning them into starts counts for a lot.

Wiki says he was £12m. That was not mega money at the time at all. Loads of PL transfers were happening for similar and more. It was a decent fee but not earth shattering by any means.

Thats the point though, he was expensive for a teenager at the time. The biggest transfer ever at the time was Zidane for £45m. Now Mbappe is the second most expensive player ever and he's still only 19.

12m for the ronaldo of back then was viewed as a crazy fee, but i do take your point that the price of the best young players has increased relatively speaking

Exactly, which is where our dealings in the transfer market have not been in touch with reality for over a decade,
and why we've failed to agree fees or wages far too often.

Dumping Ozil and Ramsey is throwing away a lot of capital. I want to see what Emery can do with these players. We’ve already seen the advances in Bellerin’s attacking game because he has a plan. I think we will see some further transformations before Christmas

IMO both players have the quality and potential to succeed in the new system and roles, but the question becomes can they be bothered to do so at this point in their careers, and would it be better if we all just called it a day and moved on?

Watched Ajax vs Dynamo Kyiv tonight and De Ligt and Frenkie De Jong were absolute class. De Ligt in particular is an incredible talent and a natural born leader and pretty much a certainty to become a world class player. The Mbappe of defenders. Shame about our lack of ambition as he's worth paying whatever it takes.

I have a feeling it might be Spurs. Wanyama is only just back in training after his knee injury. It's probably gonna be a month or two before he can start games again. Touré would be decent cover until Christmas.
