We need a back-up keeper, how do you even go about looking for someone to fill that role? I guess you'd go for someone old and experienced, or alternatively someone at a smaller club looking for a shot at the big time? Either way can't help but feel we'll end up with someone far worse than Fabianski.

Ludo, I don't get that at all about Flamini. I generally think he is tactically and positionally a lot more sound now than he was when he last played for us. He still tends to get sucked too far into our area and leaving 'his' midfielder open when the ball is played wide, but he was a lot more of a headless chicken before IMO.

I get what he's saying to be honest. Flamini used to be more of a high energy type of player. He never had much in his locker but he ran up and down the field like a Duracel bunny. Nowadays he's more like a poor man's Makelele. I don't think it's because of Milan though. I think it's because of the knee injuries. He had to adapt when he lost some of his running power a few years ago. It becomes apparent when you compare him to younger guys like Ramsey and Chamberlain.

I'd pick up Marshall. I think he's been better than all the big names this season and Cardiff will probably be relegated.

I think Flamini not running around all over the shop these days has more to do with a better understanding of his role personally. He left us badly exposed defensively a lot of the time in his first stint here because of it IMO. Now, he actually functions as a defensive shield a lot better. The problem, really, has mostly been when Wenger has asked him to play that box to box role. He really wasn't suited for it before, and he certainly isn't now. Honestly, I think that is more down to his limitations as a footballer than him having become a worse player.

Who the heck is Walker?

It is almost impossible to get a 2nd keeper better than Fabianski.

I meant Marshall. The names are really similar. I got confused.

I reckon Marshall will have some good offers and won't fancy being 2nd choice. Julio Cesar maybe? He ended up on loan at Toronto, he might fancy coming here to challenge Szczesny. Failing that just get someone like Jaaskalainen or Sorensen.

I'm not too fussed. Plenty of decent options around. We don't need a backup as good as Fabianski really.

Cesar is still number one for Brazil though. He won't keep that spot if he goes to Arsenal to sit on the bench.

Where's Fabianski going to go? Down the PL Chamakh route, surely worth just sitting it out at Arsenal.

Fabianski should find a good club easily. Schalke supposed to be interested for starters. He could end up first choice at a CL club no problem.

He still has to prove he has cut most of his lapses out, or he will find himself on the bench really fast again.

I also respect the fact that he want a career with memories to show his kids and is not satisfied by collecting wages as a bench player.

conversation should start and end with a 50m bid for Diego Costa on the day the window opens. no faffling. no bargaining. just a sealed deal and a boring summer. even Sagna will sort himself after seeing that

Diego Costa is not £40 million better than Giroud. He's also got average pace imo and I think he will just paper over the huge crack that is our SYSTEM. We shouldn't play with a target man, it hinders us. Our model should be the 4-6-0 formation/style practiced by the Mancs circa 07-09. Fast mobile interchangeable mids and forwards. This suits our current mix of creative tippy tappies (Caz, Ozil) and direct forwards (Theo, Ox, Pod).

The missing element is the fast world class striker. If you're to drop 50 mil or more go for Suarez. He completes my dream frontline of Ox-Suarez-Theo. With Ozil and Ramsey dominating behind them. Pod/Caz from the bench.

Costa is rapid especially when he gets going. Not that bad out of the blocks either. I don't know which Diego Costa you've been watching.

He's also not an oafish targetman like Giroud at all. Costa is a proper allrounder, comes short, plays off the shoulder, pulls outwide, runs at defenders, harasses them all over the place. He's a dynamo.

Ideally, wheels should already be in motion regarding reinforcements. Targets should already be identified, contact with clubs should already have been made. There is nothing preventing clubs from negotiating transfers mid-season.

Having said that, I think it is fair to say that Draxler looks very likely to join us in the summer. It would be extremely satisfying if we, for once, could have our transfers sorted early, preferably before the WC. Wenger seems to have this dated idea though that everything should happen right at the end. Yes, I think it is mainly because of Wenger we have been operating like that.
