the thing is this. i would start Costa pursuit now. if it looks like it's going to fail, we need to seal the deal with someone like Balotelli before teams go to World Cup training camps. we cannot afford to end up farting in the wind again

I don't think it's possible to start negotiations for another team's key player in the middle of the season.

Balotelli is a nut-job.

Personally I'd spend 8m on Remy immediately and then try to get the big name in. Worst case Remy can play on the wing or Giroud can bugger off.

You can't deny PL is a much harder league to score in and that this is only the first season Diego Costa scored this amount of goals. Obviously he would be a dream signing, but to me Suarez is still a better player than Costa for now.

I said "I think". Obviously none of us know what goes on behind the scenes but it seems illogical that Atletico would listen to us when they're in CL QFs and are title contenders. Nevermind Costa himself who's focused on his current club.

The rules are a sham. If teams can't even pretend to adhere to Financial Fairplay, Xavi is spouting nonsense about Cesc''s DNA everyday, and Hleb is out in Haagen Dazs in Milan, then nothing is sacred. We need to be on the phone with Costa's agent right now talking about our financial offer and our other planned acquisitions. Most important thing is to turn the player now and get a sense of Atletico's minimum valuation from Costa's agent.

Agreed, Suarez is a level above Costa IMO.

People only seem to notice his dribbling but he often plays outrageous passes*. His passing, dribbling, visions etc all beter than Costa's. Suarez's creativity is at an elite level (up there with the best #10s in Europe) , his goal scoring ability is slowly reaching that level too (I'd say it has been the last 2 seasons).

La Liga is easier for a Messi or a Ronaldo perhaps, but they are the centerpieces in the two most expensive teams in the world. They're bound to look excellent. For everyone else it's roughly the same. Let's not pretend that Premier League has some magical dimension compared to other leagues. Rather it's the opposite. The whiz-bang premier league is easier to score in. Top players like Torres and Cesc have repeatedly stated that PL defenders are rubbish, the tactical ability of PL midfielders is sub par, and that even PL goalkeepers are mediocre compared to players in la Primera División.

I find it incredibly funny that Torres can say something like that, given how playing against him is basically a vacation for the defenders.

He just said that there's more space in behind the midfield in Premier League. The rest has been misinterpreted. Flamini was the one who echoed similar sentiments this fall. As far as I can tell he didn't mean that in a derogatory way, but talked about the high-pressing initial wave that you're always faced with in England. If you can keep the ball and endure it there will be plenty of space for someone like Fabregas or Özil to capitalise on. Italian teams, by contrast, make a point of closing down that area which means that deeper lying playmakers such as Pirlo and Montolivo have developed throughout the years.

Yeah, they ruined Flamini in Italy. Although his passive playstyle may be because of age and injuries also.
