Was thinking about the positions we must fill this summer and the list includes

Striker
TV replacement
Sagna replacement
Second choice GK
Possibly a fourth CB as we have no cover.

That's 4 or 5 crucial positions that need to be filled before we start thinking about 'luxury' signings like Greizmann and a tough tackling CM.

I know we have more than that, everybody knows we have a ton of money. However, I wasn't asking how much money we have, I was asking how anyone could possibly know how much of that money will be available for transfer this summer.

Wenger says he wants to extend Vermaelen's contract, do we know from anywhere that Vermaelen's desperate to leave?

Obviously he wants games, but they will come in greater numbers in any normal season.

I have a lot of respect for guys who actually want to play, rather than just doing nothing and take the money. Realistically, Vermaelen can't afford to waste his prime years on our bench. It is certainly going to be difficult to find a better third choice in the summer. Finding a better fourth choice than Sagna will be impossible too. This is such a fucking mess! :gah:

Yeah seriously. How many bit part players do Chelsea/Man City have who not only don't complain but work very hard when they do get a chance. Ridiculous.

None of them are as good as Vermaelen though. I reckon with the exception of 2 or 3 clubs he'd be a first team CB for any other PL club.

I don't think Vermaelen would be difficult to replace at all. We'll get decent money for him if we're smart and then just reinvest that on a like for like replacement.

Armor

I like Dula's list. Coleman or Piszczek would be proper replacements but might be deemed too expensive. I think the next best is Micah Richards or Clyne. I'd go for Richards as he can cover CB as well but City might not sell. Clyne should be easy enough to buy if we need to seeing as Chambers is breaking through.

Cardiff should be relegated. Caulker might be a decent Vermaelen replacement.

David Marshall would be a good Fabianski replacement too

Ye if he fancies it. He might have good options though, same for Kasper Schmeichel who's on a free (Milan supposed to want him). A back up keeper shouldn't be too hard to get this summer. Even the likes of Villa and Stoke have adequate second choices.

The problem is getting in a good player who pretty much knows he'll be third choice. I know most players have an inflated belief in their own abilities, like Song thinking he could break into the Barcelona midfield, but I still don't think it is going to be easy to replace Vermaelen with a player as good as him.

Song will probably be on the market in the summer. Anyone interested in taking him back? Midfield steel and CB cover in one neat little package...
