In a heartbeat. What's the point of keeping a player he doesn't trust?
It's not just on Wenger either. We have some absolute fucking morons working for us. Every summer they manage to fuck things up despite having three months to do their business. We'll sit here at the end of august without any new striker, just wait and see. A deal for someone who's less of an improvement on Giroud than we really need will be sorted out in the final hour of the transfer window while we miss out on any reinforcements in midfield.
Honestly, I think our 'lateness' in the transfer window is mostly down to Wenger. He seems to have this idea that you can get the price down by stalling. In some cases he is probably right, but then I reckon it is because the player is set on Arsenal only and the selling club really, really wants to get rid at that point due to the player having made his stay at the current club untenable; the Arshavin and Arteta transfers are cases in point here. I am sure we really DID get them at a reduced price in the end.
However, this MO looks terribly dated, especially for top players! It also doesn't take into consideration how it impacts the squad in getting to know each other on the pitch.
I truly believe that Wenger is the driving force here, and that he places the sporting performances of the team secondary when it comes to this matter; IMO Wenger values the price over timing EVERY time. I also think the buck stops with Wenger when to determine what is the final offer on a player. I have a very hard time believing that there is anyone above Wenger who will actually say 'no' on the asking price of a player.
