If you guys want to succeed with your plan, you'll need to reach deep into your pockets. Let's take Mesut versus signing a Paul Pogba for example. If we assume Mesut cost 42.5million pounds, and has a 5 year contract at 8m pounds a year. His total gross cost over 5 years is 82.5million pounds, and his net cost with depreciation tax impact of 20% takes his cost to 74.1million pounds for 5 years. Assuming we got a Pogba at 60m pounds and 200,000 pounds per week for 5 years, the gross cost would be 110million, and the cost net of tax shield would be 98million pounds. So a real top player on the highest wages costs us 25m more over 5 years, or 5 million more per year, excluding marketing impact.
The long and short of it is we need to be absolutely sure about the players we are willing to break the bank for. It also goes back to my previous point that if we want to bring in a few big name players like this, we will need to sell. Guys like Walcott, Wilshere, Welbeck, etc., will need to be looked at long and hard if we are going to be able to make it rain
