i don't think we need a director of football, we need a chief executive who can make deals happens through his contacts. someone in the dein/gill mold. besides, most directors of football dont have a fucking clue.

re gibbs, he's also a better 1v1 defender and is still getting better, while monreal has peaked and still isn't demonstrably better than gibbs.

Gazidis clearly is doing a good job on the commercial front, so I wouldn't replace him.
We do, however, need a wheeler dealer. Someone who will shift the strategy completely. I'd rather we had a few failed risks (e.g., a Berbatov), than this overly cautious formula we are currently applying

We are not getting Shaw. Pipe Dream. He is going to Chelsea and we just bought Monreal not long ago. Always thought criticism of him is over the top too.

I really hope we keep Vermaelen, then we would only need...

1 backup goalie
1 RB - Coleman, Montoya, Jung, Uchida, Sakai etc
1 backup CB - Lascelle? Or recall Miquel
1 centre mid - Schneiderlin, Bender, McCarthy, Pogba, Koke, Kroos
1 LW - Draxler? Reus? Griezmann?
1 ST - Diego Costa, Mandzukic, El Shaarawy, Benzema, Ciro Immobile

I agree with Clrnc. Though I still think Jenk could make it here. But an Arteta replacement, a pacy winger and a pacy striker are MUSTS. Sadly at most I think we'll get Draxler and go through an awkward teething process to convert him to striker.

Gibbs is far better than Monreal. The only problem with Gibbs is his fitness. Really we need another left back at Gibbs level or better, the drop off when Monreal comes in is too much.

Monreal is good enough. And he's healthy. Solve for the Gibbs issue if you are bringing in Shaw

We need a better backup for Gibbs....
Spend on top quality striker and another decent backup, say goodbye to Giroud and Bendtner.....
Reinforce midfield with the likes of a Kroos or Schneiderlein...
If Sagna goes, top notch RB, Jenks stays on the bench....Coleman would be ideal but doubt it would happen....
And then the question of Vermaelen....
And another pacey winger.....
That's quite a bit, and I doubt it will happen...
I'll be surprised if next transfer window, Wenger brings in 3 new players....

Gibbs is good enough, just gets injured too much.

Gibbs might be good enough but it doesn't help us when he misses so many games all the time. Doesn't help his development as a player either. Back when he was Clichy's backup he used to be injured all the time too, so it's not because he has been pushed too hard this season.

Anyway, we all know Wenger ain't signing another leftback any time soon. Best bet is just to hope that Gibbs toughens up.

Nobody thought we'd sign a RB before Sagna came either. We've got 2 in 1 position this time, but who knows, maybe Wenger will look at Shaw and think he's too good to pass up. Shaw could really transform us in attack IMO. He's lightening, a good dribbler, and can come inside and help build the game.

Buying Shaw made more sense before we bought Monreal. We really should have just pulled the trigger then.
