It's not unheard of to do this. Some players want to pay the club back because they feel they owe them something. So they sign a new contract knowing that clubs will want to buy them regardless, to give their club more money. Doesn't need to be an investor or a childhood fan.
Ah bless 'im. Probably makes tax deductible donations to charity too.

That would be the shit. Reus would be ace too but we're priced out of that due to his contract extension.
Pogba should be this summers big transfer spend.
A first XI without Ramsey in it is not wishlist material FFS! Pretty outrageous too that you have that Brazilian guy no one has seen play over our German world champion too.
Drop Ramsey yet sign no new defenders? Terrible use of resources.
I don't think that our defensive issues are wholly caused by the quality of our back 5. Having a tall, physical, and defensively capable, double pivot in front of the back 5 would help immensely.
Has Khedira still not signed a contract extension btw?
Nope!
HNNNNNNG
Free to leave in the summer. We need to pick him up.
I hope he's still good. Him, Ramsey and Coquelin in the middle against the best teams. Switch out Coquelin for Cazorla against the lesser ones.
Quincy, who plays 10 in that line-up?
I don't think we'll be playing with a 10 very often, unfortunately.
We played with one yesterday.
We will always play with a 10.
Ramsey isn't key
I can see Khedira either come here as a big name signing, play in all of our games and not really live up to the hype. Or sign for Chelsea, play not as much and somehow be a really effective player for them. There's no middle ground.
If fit he'll be a hit.
So many good players struggle to stay fit and thus become so unappealing.
