IIRC we were 'linked' / talked of both Wanyama and Schneiderlin as a potential midfield pairing when Saints first gained promotion & Wanyama first made waves v Barca in the CL?

I expect AW to make an approach in Jan but I doubt Saints have any intention to sell.

Cabaye may be a different story and could play as DLP as seen at the WC, but he's usually supported by a more capable defensive partner.
I'm also curious re the recent speculation regarding Romulo.

Nah, not without a Costa or Aguero level striker. That's largely why Chelsea and City are ahead of us. That's what confuses me when people think we should be challenging for the title. Our rivals also have Matic and Fernandinho, whilst we have a crocked Arteta.

Welbeck may turn out to be that guy, but he's certainly not there at the moment.

Sanchez is that Aguero level second striker, then you have the target man, Dzeko v Welbeck/Giroud. Then playmaker Silva v Ozil and central midfielder yaya v Ramsey. In defence Arteta and Per need to be replaced with Javi Martinez and Hummels.

I'd take Schneiderlin no questions asked though.

He's an average player, which possibly explains why you're not a fan. He's big and strong, wins tackles so people think he will work for us. Like you say we had a better player in Song who was hopeless at times playing the defensive role. Need someone who understands and reads the game there, not just pure brute strength.

I'd rather leave him where he is and let him be brilliant and get goals from there and sign a striker who's a lot better than Welbeck.

If we can somehow get hold of Reus I would do it, and then play either him or Sanchez up front. Leaning towards Sanchez right now because of his holdup play though. I think he'd be every bit as brilliant.
