When has Wenger ever dealt with anyone like Balotelli? He tends to get rid of lads like that when they are young or he avoids them altogether. Definitely not the sort of player Wenger likes to bring into his squads. He likes smart, professional types.

van Marwijk about RvP when he played for Feyenoord.

Feyenoord shopped him at the end of the campaign but found few takers due to Van Persie's past disciplinary issues.

van Persie was a lot younger though. Balotelli is 24 in August, that's what worries me. A lot fewer attitude changes at that age.

I'm not saying I love the idea of Balotelli, but if we can't get a world class striker, sign this guy.

A top notch LW... All the wingers we're linked with seems to be RWs like Sanchez/DiMaria/Vela but with Walcott/Chambo/Wilshere I can't say that I really see the need for another RW. Are there even any good LWs available though?

Hypothetically, how would people feel about that?

Top class wide forwards, top class CM to partner Ramsey, a young and very promising RB to replace Sagna, but a rather underwhelming striker. Albeit, a striker who can run and who would likely compliment Ozil quite well.

Not bad, but money could be spent wiser. I prefer Di Maria in central midfield.

One of Di Maria's best qualities is his delivery - not sure Ozil/Vela/Sanchez are the type to thrive on that unless we're counter attacking. Think we would struggle with Chelsea's bus...as usual.

Vela is and will always be (in a serious setup) a wide forward.

Vela up-top in England is simply not going to work period. He just doesn't have the strength nor the all-round game to play there.

No he isn't that well rounded. To really succeed with his build he needs to stand-out in his skill-set like Aguero and Suarez. He's not upto that level. When the trade-off is paying 30-40m for an established striker or paying 15-25m for a striker proven in the league and when one has those resources comfortably you really need to make an exceptional argument for the case of signing Vela and slotting in him in the first 11 as our striker. I find these posts suggesting we sign players like Sanchez or Vela as first choice strikers to play in the most physical league odd considering for their clubs in the last 3-4 seasons they haven't played as central strikers.

It would be out of keeping with Wenger's philosophy in recent years to use Vela centrally.

Whereas he's got a long track record of playing strikers wider than they'd prefer or even than where they, as individuals, might have most impact.
