Atletico is going to win the league and Costa is going to leave.

Doesn't make sense. At all. Why would he leave? They don't have Valencia-type financial difficulties. Not all clubs operate like Arsenal with their legs open all the time

I think either of Suarez or Costa might leave regardless - after all, if their clubs win major trophies it's "mission accomplished".

Costa might renegotiate with Atletico if he doesn't want to move to the club they just beat in the CL semi and play under an absolute prick in career decline like Mourinho, as opposed to Simeone.

Plus Costa has a release clause, plus he can make more money elsewhere, plus Chelsea has a greater chance of being successful next season than Atletico does, plus Chelsea are simply a bigger club where Costa would have greater exposure. Winning a shiny thing doesn't mean that Chelsea wouldn't be a step-up careerwise from Atletico.

Thanks, Burnsy. I just don't see the pressure to move. It doesn't feel like Ronaldo going to Madrid, where he was going to his dream club as the most expensive player in the world.

Still, we really ought to be in there with a huge team negotiating the hell out of the situation. I will say a bleeding obvious statement just in case anyone at Arsenal 'feel' it ... Costa would really fuel us.

While we are there, get Simeone and send Wenger on a bus around Highbury with a gold watch.

They do pay very well compared to what Costa would currently be on at Atletico though. He'd be getting 2-3 times that at least if he moved ... which is why I was suggesting a renegotiation might be on the cards.

They have huge financial problems and the feeling is that their achievement this season, however admirable, won't be repeated again. Next season Barca and Real will still be favourites for the league and about a dozen other teams will still be favourites for Champions League.

Put it like this: people said the same thing about Dortmund and it hasn't stopped them from losing their best player every season.

Dortmund lost players to Real and Bayern though, historically great clubs. I guess Chelsea are a big club too though with the money, so many CL semis, etc.

Atletico will want to sell if the price is right given their debts. Simeone sounded confident earlier in the season of being able to replace Costa. If they're able to keep the rest of their squad I think they'll still be in decent shape, but if Chelsea grab Courtois, or somebody comes after one of their defenders, or Mario Suarez or Koke, then things could unravel a bit Dortmund-style.

Contrary to popular belief, that Costa buyout clause gives them significant leverage. Atletico are sitting prettier than if they didn't have one.

Apparently Atlético only own 6 of their players outright. Amazing if true.

My "realistic" wishlist:

GK: Schmeichel free
CB: Mangala £20m or Papadopoulos £10m
RB: Aurier £9m
DM: Gustavo or Schneiderlin £15-20m
WF/ST: Drmic £5m
ST: Lukaku £25m

£60-70 millions of investment in the squad. No superstar forward like Cavani for 50m as that would blow the budget that we need for reinforcements in other areas of the squad. Prices are complete guesswork except for Gustavo who has a confirmed release clause of around £20m.

I don't know how true this is but rumour from some Southampton fans is we put in a bid for Schneiderlin in January for £15m and it was turned down. Saw this on twitter earlier and do remember we were linked quite a bit back then.

It might explain why we being linked to Bender. Also a German fan on twitter saying that the German press haven't mentioned this rumour at all. Though they didn't really give much coverage to our Draxler bid and turned out we did make one.
