Tottenham have a lot of physicality and they should not be what we strive to be. Skill beats physicality in football. What would physicality in midfield do for us? How would that actually help us establish some sort of coherent attacking football (outside quick counter attacks)? I guess it depends on what the goal is. Is our goal to be like Spurs? Chaotic football with a lot of running? Or is our goal to dominate matches and play pass-and-move football like city, psg, barca etc?
Although this is a false dilemma, because we need a bit of both. But I think our primary concern is bringing in a central midfielder who can pass and move. Keep the ball moving, and help us play out of pressure.
Ideally:
Someone like Brandt to replace Ozil. More dynamic and mobile than Ozil.
Someone like Gundogan (or someone even better) to replace Xhaka. He keeps the ball moving nicely, and reads the game very well.
Someone like Tierney or Pepe, depending on which formation we're going for. Pace and skill out wide.
Someone like Manolas to replace Mustafi. Stronger, faster, and someone who can keep his composure under pressure.
