Reckon Saints would want more than that.

Definitely. They want £20m for Shaw and even Chamberlain cost us £13m.

Must be fairly rotten being a Southampton fan, just waiting for your brightest and best to be swiped away.

Like being an Arsenal fan.

Clear improvement on Vucinic, but why would Lazio send him on a six-month loan when his contract ends in six months?

Loan fee + get his wages off the bill?

Actually, that might be it.

I wonder what Lazio's economy is like. Word is that they're selling Hernanes to Inter too. Losng those two equals giving up on this season entirely.

What shape is Klose in these days?

Lazio got anything left to play for realistically?

Wenger refusing to pay 37m for Draxler despite the board signing off on it according to reports. Well done Wenger, Draxler is a dud.

Stupid reports surely. They're making up shit for fun now

How can they know that unless someone either on the board or close to the board leaked it?
That's unlikely as none of the board would want to hang Wenger out publicly, surely.

My guess is that we made an enquiry, were quoted a price, and that was that.

Newspapers hype a deal. Deal doesn't happen. Newspapers make new, unsubstantiated but impossible to argue story about why the deal didn't happen.

I've seen this film before and it's boring.

He's been injured a bit this season but he's looked like a class act on the odd occasion I've seen him. Not sure how he'd cope with Premier League at his age though. Would be happy to find out.

For me it's not really the Draxler deal specifically that's so frustrating. It's everything. Özil is the exception. But really, we should have signed 2-3 more top quality players last summer. We persued Higuain for what seemed like forever(not to mention Jovetic before that). We put in an embarassing and incompetent bid for Suarez, all the while never serious about actually paying his worth.

Pretty much feel cheesed off as well, and it's also not about Draxler. We need a trophy and I think we've fallen short in terms of really aiming for one.

That we had no hope at the start of the season but have led the league up until now proves we're frustratingly close now to what we need, in this window of opportunity.

Come summer and megaclubs will be trying to unsettle our defence and midfield stars. Imagine if Kos to Barcelona or Ramsey to United becomes the story of the summer.

Anyway, hope we bring in a forward, I'll be somewhat mollified if we do.

i agree, when you have a chance, you need to go for it. that's the whole point of the club.

There's also the gnawing suspicion that we won't get a better chance than this for a long time. This has been one of our two-three best league starts ever. Don't see us repeating it next season, especially not if a few experienced players walk out the door.

I've been wracking my brains to think of a January signing that's ever been key in securing a PL for United, Chelsea, City or us.

So what? If we don't win it this year, it's clear as day that we would have had a better chance with a good striker.

Is it? Scoring goals hasn't been a massive problem for us.
Conceding 6 to City, 3 to Villa was.
Blowing leads against Everton and Southampton did not do us any favours either.

Wait.. are you seriously questioning whether (if we don't win) we would have had a better chance if we had a better striker?

We can't rely on defence every match. When we concede one or two goals, it would be helpful to score three.

No I'm questioning the received opinion that not having a better striker than Giroud is the only thing that stands between us and a PL trophy.
Sorry if that drives you into some kind of fury 🙂
