Actually looking at that last quote again it seems possible that there may be a deal already agreed for the summer or that something might be going on behind the scenes still. Otherwise he probably would have said it didn't work out or something like we weren't interested. Might have known he wouldn't be the missing piece to our title challenge and Shalke might not wanted to let him leave during the middle if the season so it could just be a matter of timing on when to announce it. Or maybe I'm crazy in the head and reading all sorts of things that aren't there.

My view. Based on my information. Bayern Munich managed to stop the Draxler-deal by saying "we take him in the summer".

My view. Based on my information.

Bayern Munich managed to stop the Draxler-deal by saying "we take him in the summer".

Hmmm. Bayern to hijack? Not sure if its the smartest move to move to Bayern and sit on the bench. Not sure Schalke is willing to sell to them too, although they have no say once the clause is met. Looks like it was really Schalke who did not want him to leave to us yesterday.

Jan hasn't covered himself in glory recently, he was saying a fee had been agreed and is now saying that Bayern hijacked it. He has been saying for months that Bayern might/should be interested in Draxler.

Draxler himself confirms on TV that he had great offers but Schalke stopped him from a move this window whereas English media blamed AW.

As in Bayern hijacked it, promising to pay the clause or more than our offer was right now.

It actually was just a new wishlist because the old one had got out of hand due to the many pages in it. I should know, since I created it! It wasn't me who changed the name of it though; need to ask one of the other mods who was responsible for that.
Anyway, no biggie. A new one can be created should someone feel so inclined.

Schalke chairman denied the move. maybe something to do with Gazprom getting on the blower to tell them if they sold to arsenal to forget a renewal of their hefty sponsorship deal. Same with Lazio who got some Chelsea chump after block a Klose loan.

Can only hope we go back in for him in the summer and pay what's required and that the player himself prefers us over Bayern. To me its quite clear that some kind of hijack attempt had to happen if we did make an offer, he had a 'chance' to leave but it ultimately got blocked. Clear that Schalke wants to hold out for more money.

It does seem like there is something already agreed for the summer between us though. Between Wenger keeping things quiet despite being easily able to say he wasn't interested and Draxler's admission that a move was blocked it seems like we agreed to keep things quiet to let them save face. Otherwise doesn't make sense for them to reject an offer from us slightly below the release clause and risk Bayern coming in next summer and getting him and keeping him in Germany without being able to reject.

Shalke would definitely rather sell him abroad and if given the choice of selling a few million less and preventing a rival getting or selling to the highest bidder (which would be pointless due to the release clause) then I'm sure they'd pick the former. Just think Arsene probably thought we didn't need him urgently and signed him for next season and let him stay there to get as many games as possible.
