I am at least abit relieved we actually went for strikers. Still failed though nonetheless.

And also disappointing to hear about AW and Draxler. But fairly confident he is ours already for the summer.

I think he has realized that, considering he spent 42M just six months ago.

We don't really have enough to blame Wenger. If Wenger has only (e.g) 50m pounds to spend in 2014, does he want to blow most of it on JD, or would he rather wait til June to see if he can do even better with said 50m pounds? Let's see how it plays out in June on that front.

Wrt to the season, I would have liked to see a Berbatov type come in. Just that little bit extra to push over the finish line. The inconsistent/injury-prone combination of Giroud/Bendnter/Podolski will not survive our two big stretches

There is nothing to veto. There is only one vote that counts. The rumors are nothing really, we know Wenger has board's full backing.

Well missing out on a cheap player that becomes wc is different than missing on a 45m euro player. Bet Manu kick themselfs that they only bid 5m for Ramsey it was low and we came in match it and robbed him. They should have sealed that deal quicker.

For 45m we could probably get Yaya and Zlatan. Also I don't think he will become Ronaldo.

If Wenger wants Draxler he'll go back in the summer, hindsight is a wonderful thing but you can only make judgements based on what you see now. There are plenty of YouTube scouts who think he is the next best thing but I'm sure our scouts will have watched him a hell of a lot more than them so I'll trust their judgement. If he is worth that kind of money then it does make we wonder why at the money Schalke were asking no other club came in to sign him before us? We also don't know what our transfer plans are. By paying £10m-£15m over the odds for Draxler it might not let us buy the striker we want or strengthen other positions over the summer

Chelsea are in desperate need of a striker as well and missed out, Liverpool need CMs and didn't add, Man Utd need a CM but spent big on Mata and Man City need CBs and couldn't add because Porto wanted too much. It isn't just us who haven't got what we want this transfer window. And I think this view that Draxler would of won us the title is nonsense really, a good player for the future but he wasn't going to propel us to the title.

We needed a striker and clubs just weren't willing to let go and some players wouldn't leave. Not a single striker has moved this window that I thought would of helped us.

The point is in the summer, we will still need to pay that same 37m to get Draxler. So unless this time Schalke was asking for more cause it is a January transfer, I don't see why we need to cancel the deal and wait until the summer. By all account (even David Ornstein!), our board has sanctioned the deal but Wenger was unwilling. Just a fear that if Draxler have a good world cup he will have more suitors. Well, I am still quietly confident as long as we finish the season well, since Fjortfort said we have agreed a fee and Wenger has talked to him personally. Remember we had sort of promised Ozil big signings when he came?

None of our rivals actually really strengthened too, Liverpool missed out on their targets thankfully, City is already strong enough, Chelsea had a fantastic window with 3 great buys but lost Mata. The biggest winner that came out of the window is actually Fulham, getting Heitinga, Mitroglu and Holtby along with some promising youngsters. They will definitely survive along with Cardiff and Palace. Also surprised such a good wing back like Armero joined West Ham

£37m for a 20 year old is madness. You are paying for all that potential being realised into a top quality elite player. Draxler isn't there yet and there won't be a wealth of teams willing to fork out that much for him even in the summer.

I'm more worried by how we have dragged our feet with the last 2 years of recruiting strikers. We obviously want another striker have umm and ahh'd over players, valuation etc for 2 and a half years. Sort your shit out wenger, make a decision on a player and get the deal done.

I doubt Draxler will even play much for the National team let alone have a good world cup. He has far too much competition there. I do agree that if we do want the player it would of been better to do the deal now but we have no idea what Schalke even wanted. They are fighting for a Top 4 finish and to my knowledge this clause is only active in the summer so we would have to agree a figure now. Like evoh says, close to £40mill is a hell of a risk to take for a player who still needs to improve a lot. Ozil & Mata going for similar money and you know what you get with those two. Reus has a lower buyout clause than Draxler but we aren't entirely sure if that clause is active this summer or next.

Ornstein deleted that tweet so I don't know if his source wasn't too happy he had said too much or he had his information wrong. It made it out like Wenger overruled the board and said no, I don't think that would happen personally. In our current financial state I think the board would tell him to sign the guy if he wanted and that is how it should be. Player decisions should rest with the manager who knows the game inside out, not by board members.

Another thing is the German Press haven't given this story much coverage, Schalke lot saying no Arsenal bids at all and Wenger has said this whole story has been created by the papers. Who knows what actually has happened here.
