The guardian weekly podcast was talking about our humiliation and Wenger. They were saying in one of his very recent press conferences he was talking about his time at arsenal as being 3 sections 1. His successful phase, 2. Frugal phase where the stadium had to be paid for 3. Now ! He felt now was a new phase where we had resources again and needed to challange.
The pods conclusion was that Wenger was delaying signing until he's sure he will be given the funds to compete. Which is instresting because I haven't heard anyone else mention that Wenger probably wants guatentees he can spend all the money the club generates.
Signing big players has been tough because of the damage frugal spending has done to our reputation. But an FA cup and adding to Ozil with another WC player would quickly change that.but we have no real idea how much the board will make available. Wenger was the limiting factor but he's happy to spend now.
