Wenger has had 4 windows to repalce RVP and fucked it royaly. We got Ozil at the last minute, great I'm sure he will be a great arsenal player for the next few years, but we missed the boat.

If we needed a striker that should have been number 1 priority, get it done early have a list of top to bottom choices and get it done. we went from pillar to post, Higuain to suarez to nothing. If we had gone to liverpool in late may with a decent offer and they got deigo costa as planned then everything would have worked out.

We have ummed and ahhhed in the transfer marekt for years due to wenger and it is his fault that we are always, for sure, one piece short of the puzzle at crucial times in a season. I don't think he has it in him to build a winning squad ever again. I don't think he has the mentality to get a team winning through the tough games as he goes into his shell far too often.

I love the guy for what he has done here, he has built up a modern club, but now is the time for him to leave for another project. I simply don't think that he is the only manager who could get the results we are getting year in year out with this team.

i feel trying for Suarez was the right thing. he was too good a talent to ignore, even if it meant losing Higuain. the one concern is that it felt like a reactive summer. one in which we waited for players to become available and then became interested. Wenger is able to do better (as evidenced by Podolski deal). as Evoh says, it would be good to see a plan (e.g., try Cavani/Costa/Benzema before World Cup, and then talk to 2nd choices during/after World Cup). we can't end up empty handed again because of poor sequencing

Don't worry, Wenger will be "taking his cheque book" to the World Cup as he did for the Euros.

The Star today is saying that Wenger will sign a 2 year extension with Roberto Martinez as the boards pick to replace him after that.

At this point in time Martinez looks an interesting option. He has done admirably at Everton this season. Fear he may face the same problems Moyes is currently facing in adapting to a mega club though.

Interesting indeed.

I dont think he'd struggle that badly to adapt here. For one, he will be inheriting a stable team with almost everything in place (assuming Wenger stays true to type and we're still handicapped in one or two positions).

He also is quite offensively minded and let's his teams express themselves and play proper footy.

It's in Europe that his inexperience at top level may prove costly

That, and the fact that he has zero experience with high profile transfers. At the stage we are at now financially, it is fair to think we will need to look less at bargain types of players and more at high profile ones. I also think a big part of landing those types of players has to do with the reputation of the manager. Wenger has a big reputation, whereas Martinez has none really outside of England.

Get Ancelotti in when the Real circus eventually spits him out and we will be sorted for 5-7 years. Hopefully that will coincide with Wenger's exit.

Ancelotti isn't the right fit for Arsenal. Tactically he's as good as they come but he works best with a sporting director. Martinez seems like a good choice though. Wenger will probably sign at least one more contract after this one anyway, so he's got a few years to show what he can do at Everton.

I am not sure why Ancelotti has never convinced me, even though i think the job he is doing blending Real's £100m stars is very good. For some reason, i do not think he will cut it at a club like ours where the board is tight with money.

Thats where I'd worry about him too. If theres 2 years to watch how he keeps doing at Everton though I think we should be paying attention. He'd certainly be on my short list.

Also I can't imagine Wengers successor having nearly the same amount of trust and responsibility when it comes to many areas, that includes transfer dealings.

And as I've said 100 times before I just hope Wenger goes when he goes. Last thing we need is him hanging around like some spectre the way Fergie is with Moyes.

If we get Martinez we will go down the same route Man U took when getting Moyes... For me he is too similar to Wenger, I would prefer we rather just keep Wenger. If we get a new manager it would have be someone completely different to Wenger but as experienced, Ancelotti would be fine, but a short term solution.

Don't like Martinez another average manager, but it doesn't really matter anyway as I've always said that Wengers successor will be handed a poisoned chalice just like Moyes was and will have a massive task to clean up the mess and may not survive long.
It's the manager who follows him that will be really interesting.

I'm still hoping we can grab Klopp even though much of the hype around him seems to have died down. After that, I'd gamble on someone like Martinez.

Sagna Arteta Rosicky will be gone, no proper balance no proper playing style lack of investment for nearly a decade.
Wengers poison and malaise has sunk deep into the club it will be a huge challenge to flush it out.

Wenger's legacy is that he can do it all on a shoestring and still be with the big boys. It is his ace card.

But now that it seems Rogers may have done that with Liverpool? How does Wenger's genius look if Liverpool are above us?

What has applied, applies and will apply to Wenger will apply to Wenger's replacement - just invest heavily in a couple of the world's best attacking players.
The core of the team is solid enough, there is a good feeling around the team, they've battled hard over the last couple of seasons so they're resilient.
Only if Wenger leaving means the likes of Ramsey, Özil, Kos, Jack or Chamberlain leaving as well do I see a Moyes style collapse.

It may sound disingenuous but realise that not everyone knows how to spend money properly in the correct circumstances, Wenger certainly can't.
He did well enough when he had to spend little with an eye to resale value, but has been unable/unwilling to adjust when more money was available.
