They'd probably sell him to us if we were twelve points adrift of them.

Rumor has it the transfer is going to cost almost 40 mill.
That's a darned good deal for Chelsea.
We offered then 2m for a ba loan. Not exactly tempting.
They only paid like £7mill for him, £2mill loan fee is a decent amount and then consider he will go back to them a better play because he'd get more games here and we'd pay his wages
Mourinho just beat United. He's done with them for the year. But United still have City and Arsenal to play. Better that United take points of City and United. They are too far behind Chelsea to be a title threat this season, so the risk for 2013-2014 is low for Mourinho.
40m pounds for any of Chelsea's players would be a massive amount of money. Maybe Oscar is close to that value, but nobody else. Being offered that for a player who is a sub for you is an irresistable offer.
As said, i would be totally amazed if this didnt involve Rooney in some way. It was clear Chelsea was after him in the summer and its clear he isnt renewing his contract at ManU. Since Chelsea are well stacked with strikers until summer then they can easily wait while giving them Mata for a very healthy fee and a chance they take some points off their rivals (Liverpool, Spurs, us and City).

Did you just call us United?!

They would never sell Hazard for 40m.
They probably wouldn't but he's not worth more than that.
If the PSG rumours are true he'll go for a mega sum, way more than 40m.

He only went cheap because of his clause. Just because they brought him for that much doesn't mean they'd sell on similar values. As a manager why would I give away my striker for 2m to rival for a year. 2m is nothing. Other clubs could also offer similar money for a loan.
That is how loans work though, you pay the wages and give them a fee. If he is on say £60k a week and a £2mill fee that is more than £5mill Chelsea are making out of this and they get the player back. They had agreed to it and then pulled out last min. I don't think they really had any intention to loaned him to us, think they strung us along and pulled out at the last min to disrupt our plans. Our fault for not having a backup plan in place. Especially with our last min purchase of Ozil going through they were bound to think twice.
I think if we'd offered to buy Ba for say, £15m, Mourinho would have bitten our hands off.
Surprised we didn't pursue them afterwards, it's highly illegal to enter into negotiations and brutally end them without ever having the intention of contracting with the client. Difficult to prove though.
Highly illegal? As opposed to a little bit illegal?

No they had agreed to let him go but they hadn't agreed on a loan fee.
If a rival club came in and offered 1-2m loan for a player like Podolski would Wenger say yeah? He probably wouldn't. If they came in and stumped up 25-30m for him he'd be gone. Same with Mata.

Highly illegal because, in France anyway, it goes against several legal principals and is something the high court has been really pushing for the last 15 years.
So, Salah, is he any good? Chelsea have allegedly signed him from Basle.
