I don't want to drag it out either, but everyone knows the only clubs in for him were the two Manchesters and if we'd held him to his contract, he'd still be playing for another PL club right now.
The thing that really blows my mind about Mata is that Jose has frozen him out. That makes no sense to me, as he's a superb player ideally suited to the PL.
Maybe mata plays well but the team loses balance
Mata coming in and Chelsea have their two worst league seasons in a while. Coincidence?
Struggle to see where Mata fits in. Obviously can't play with two forwards so that put's one of Rooney and Van Persie on the bench. Rooney has 12 months on deal in the summer. Van Persie turning 31 in the summer and back to perma-crock state. Kagawa surely will leave. I expect them along with Chelsea to compete with us for top strikers in the summer. I think they'll spend 150m this year.
Rooney off
Kagawa off
Vidic and Evra gone
As regards how logical this Mata move is- firstly chelsea will be weakened by this. Mata out, De Bruyne out, Van Ginkel out for the season. They only have the inconsistent Schurrle on the bench as a creative backup to the three of Oscar, Hazard and Willian. But financially Mata has two left on his deal in the summer and he isn't signing a new deal as a sub which lowers his sale value. No club in Italy can pay up. Madrid are stocked. Leaves Barca who are cheapskates and Bayern who don't need any more midfielders beyond the premier league and ligue 1 as clubs who can afford him.
If I were chelsea though wouldn't budge unless Rooney is agreed in deal wether now or in summer. Utd are THAT desperate as uefa cup/Moyes combo zeroes chances of signing top players.
