Now I want a shiny new player too
The other clubs transfer thread
Let's say the Mata deal goes through but United don't finish in the top four. How do they balance the books?
Mata isn't going to sign for United, Mourinho is playing with them.

It's basically a done deal by all accounts.
Looks like this might actually be happening, shocked Chelsea would sell them Mata. Surely has to be more to this than meets the eye.
Mourinho is out of his mind, he will be livid with himself when he see United back in the title race next year. Mata is top class, make no mistake. They are selling away their most productive player.
Hate to see United recovering in the 2nd part of the season. Looks like when they play us they will have Mata feeding Rooney and RVP.
United won't be in the title race next season, it'll be another season of battling for fourth IMO.

Juan Mata has been training in Cobham today as usua

They weren't using him anyway, plus it gives a bit of legroom FFP wise. Logical deal. As for selling to United of all teams, I think there has to be a Rooney deal somewhere in there.
Straight swap?

The thing that really blows my mind about Mata is that Jose has frozen him out. That makes no sense to me, as he's a superb player ideally suited to the PL.
Maybe mata plays well but the team loses balance
Mata coming in and Chelsea have their two worst league seasons in a while. Coincidence?
Struggle to see where Mata fits in. Obviously can't play with two forwards so that put's one of Rooney and Van Persie on the bench. Rooney has 12 months on deal in the summer. Van Persie turning 31 in the summer and back to perma-crock state. Kagawa surely will leave. I expect them along with Chelsea to compete with us for top strikers in the summer. I think they'll spend 150m this year.
Rooney off
Kagawa off
Vidic and Evra gone
As regards how logical this Mata move is- firstly chelsea will be weakened by this. Mata out, De Bruyne out, Van Ginkel out for the season. They only have the inconsistent Schurrle on the bench as a creative backup to the three of Oscar, Hazard and Willian. But financially Mata has two left on his deal in the summer and he isn't signing a new deal as a sub which lowers his sale value. No club in Italy can pay up. Madrid are stocked. Leaves Barca who are cheapskates and Bayern who don't need any more midfielders beyond the premier league and ligue 1 as clubs who can afford him.
If I were chelsea though wouldn't budge unless Rooney is agreed in deal wether now or in summer. Utd are THAT desperate as uefa cup/Moyes combo zeroes chances of signing top players.
In the event that all three of Rooney, RVP and Mata are all available at the same time, which looks unlikely at this point, then you play Mata on a flank. Isn't too difficult. One of the problems Man U has faced this season IMO is that they look labored and lack creativity. Their only consistent play has been working it wide for numerous crosses. The only ones breaking that mould have been Rooney and Januzaj. Getting another creative player in should certainly be a priority, and Moyes trying to sign Mata is a good move.

They are better off selling him in the summer if they are thinking about FFP, they can add the deal to their income statement for next season.
'They weren't using him' - He's made 17 appearances for Chelsea this season and their attacking players have been mostly injury free so far. They've only got about 4 players for 3 positions now, what if the likes of Mata, Oscar etc pick up longer-term injuries? They are still fighting on 3 fronts and are very likely to go all the way.
Anyway, I don't care about what this might mean for Chelsea, I'm just pissed off they are helping out those cunts at a time when they are struggling to sign top players. If ManU miss out on top 4 they'll find it even harder to bring in top players in the summer, Fellaini was the best player they could sign in the summer ffs, and that's after they've just won the league, how on earth are they suddenly going to be able to attract top players with Europa league? Especially with the likes of Rooney and Van Judas looking to jump ship. They'll be forced to sign upcoming talents and go on a long rebuilding process. Chelsea should in no way help them make top 4.
Moyes still has to fix his tactics though. United will finish 4th at best for years to come.

Explain?
They could easily play Mata on the left in a 4-2-3-1
He played and shone in that position for Valencia
Lack of creativity from wide areas is what has fucked them up the most this season, the likes of Young, Valencia etc have all been abysmal. Mata and Januzaj out wide will rival any team in the league for goals and creativity. And they've got Rafael fit again - he adds a lot to their team going forward.

Yeah it's set in stone they won't sack Moyes even if they have another bad start next season.
I'd use Mata from the right and Januzaj from the left.
Guy from Sky's hanging around OT waiting for an update on the alleged £40m bid for Mata.
Blah blah he'll lift spirits, blah blah United might turn a corner this summer.
Hope they get dumped out of C1 Cup tonight.
It would demoralise the whole of United if they don't sign him now. It would be a repeat of Fabregas.
Would be much worse than Fabregas. There was nothing to suggest they were actually close to signing him.
