In 24 games, he has 5 goals, 9 assists (most), 7 pre-assists (most with Ramsey).
He created 3 goalscoring opportunities yesterday, again the most in our team.
He averages 3 key passes a game this season, the only players with more key passes this season are Totti and Silva, one of those is in a weaker league the other has much better strikers to play behind. He had more assists than any player in Europe's top 5 leagues in 2013 and this season has made more passes in the final 3rd that any player in the league. All the while playing behind a fucking donkey up top with shit movement and runs.
This.
I don't really understand the need to delve into the secondary effects on the team with regard to his movement, positional versatility and decision making (though I do agree that these factors are important) in order to "defend" him. His raw numbers by themselves are very good.
I also think it should be mentioned that the team that went on that run towards the end of last season was pretty bad offensively and that was with Santi Cazorla playing like Santi Cazorla and Theo Walcott not being injured. People like to complain about Giroud but we haven't had a single consistently good wide player all season, left or right. Ozil has literally been the only member of the front 4 that has been performing at a good level.
Overall, he has been a top 10-15 player in the Premier League this season and he's still capable of much more. He's not been perfect but the criticism of him has been really weird in my opinion.
