Was just your average Szczesny pass according to some in the match thread. I find the lack of understanding for what Özil brings to the team very surprising.

Me too. I don't mind him being under-appreciated by neutrals but it really annoys me when I see rubbish about him from Arsenal fans. Wouldn't hear a peep out of them if Özil missed five games in a row. Should have learned after our performances vs Newcastle/Cardiff.

Its only natural he was a little bit rusty today, he had a few weeks off. But what he adds is vital in so many ways. The way he controls the ball, his movement with and without it is exceptional. Actually by far the best in the league. Such a joy to have him.

I fully appreciate what Özil brings to the team but I also think his game is getting seriously hampered by the lack of movement and runners for him to fully showcase his natural game. So if we're to persist with the lump upfront then I think Özil will need to start being individualistic and selfish in his mindset as Giroud will simply not provide a good enough outlet for this natural game.

it's a good pass, but i find that non-football playing hipsters are over-impressed by fairly simple and obvious throughballs. i'd be annoyed if one of my 5-a-side or 7-a-side teammates didn't play that ball.

Ozil will never become a prolific goal scorer as he doesn't possess the tools or the mindset.
Even if he did, i feel we would lose more than we gain as nobody else plays the number 10 role to his standard.
If Giroud is the problem, fix Giroud.

Well said. People would far appreciate Ozil more if we had more runners in the team. In Ozil's first match, Theo looked so dangerous already.

The only runner we have in our side today was Monreal and it showed. We don't even need Suarez, I think Remy would already be deadly as our striker. We just need pace and good finishing.

Gervinho would have been great for Ozil as well, to put things into context.

Seeing as the Ozil highlights gifs have dried up somewhat....Rather than start a new thread, I'll ask-
Has he been a disappointment?
Ozil was signed just before the transfer deadline closed more than doubling our previous record.
To be sure the player himself was not responsible for his price tag that was out of his control, but this is the real world-We Arsenal fans have had to endure years of cut price or free players when "none better were available" then all of sudden 42m was spunked on one player, but after several insipid sterile performances I for one can't help feeling a little dry and dissatisfied.
For 42m we could have gotten a player that was lethal in front of goal or one who could "take the game by the scruff of the neck" when things were tight, instead I can't help feeling all we got for our money was a glorified Hleb.

Ozil doesn't hide. It's his first season in this League. Outside of him we are mostly the same team that finished 4th last season and have topped the table for most of this season. He has made a massive difference to our attack.

Biggus you're destined to be disappointed by Özil.
He's never going to give you what you've just laid out.

Personally I think he's lot better than he's shown, just think he's not fully tuned in his passing game to the players around him.
He's not anticipating where they're going to be, that's why it's such a shame Theo's gone for now, he had him well worked out. It would have been a perfect combination.

I don't feel disappointed by him. It's not Ozil but what we still lack causing us issues. We're playing well as a team and he's contributing to that consistently.

I actually reject this assessment, Szczesny the defenders Arteta/Flamini Ramsey Rosicky Gnarbry have performed well above expectations, Wilshere and Giroud have been adequate, but Ozil is still performing well below par.
It's not up to the rest of the team to accommodate him, he must complement and create for them.

He is complementing and creating for them, though. He's just made the key pass for Jack's goal above. He's on target for a twenty assist season and has a good attitude.

Anyway, I'm not too worried about his fee, and he's not responsible for that. There's a very strong case that we should've brought in a striker during the summer, and we still need to with or without Ozil. Everyone agrees on that.

I'm not saying he's shit, he needs of course time to fit in with the team......
But those blaming other players for not having an understanding with him are like the mother watching the troops march past and exclaim "they're all out of step except my Johnny!"

Is it only because we paid £42m that you expect that he would not need time to adjust and settle Biggus?
We've heard time and again from players coming from other leagues that it takes a while for them to cope physically with the demands.
As Bw pointed out he's still contributed greatly to our attack.
Fourth on our list of goal scorers and well up on the assists.
The midfielder you described is more Yaya Toure than Özil.

In 24 games, he has 5 goals, 9 assists (most), 7 pre-assists (most with Ramsey).

He created 3 goalscoring opportunities yesterday, again the most in our team.

He averages 3 key passes a game this season, the only players with more key passes this season are Totti and Silva, one of those is in a weaker league the other has much better strikers to play behind. He had more assists than any player in Europe's top 5 leagues in 2013 and this season has made more passes in the final 3rd that any player in the league. All the while playing behind a fucking donkey up top with shit movement and runs.
