Zidane was incredibly gifted but is far from a class act. He was a hot tempered piece of work with a violent streak who would try and stamp on an opponent unnoticed but still got sent off a bunch of times.
However in this situation he's perfectly within his rights to want Bale off the team. There's an interview with Bales agent on the Independent I think where he tries to get people to sympathise with his client over Zidane like a year ago, he probably inadvertently admitted that Bale pretty much openly defied Zidanes instructions on where to play. Then there's the interview from after the CL final and the overall lack of effort and sulking on the pitch even after scoring, also his constant interviews about game time when Zidane was clearly managing him because of his brittle body.
People see the highlights and that's it but Bale has been acting disgracefully for at least a year, his behaviour has been a lot worse than Özils and he's on like double his wages.
