It was always money-oriented and Milan have historically been the worst offenders. Berlusconi has bought them every trophy they've won since the late eighties. The team they had in the early 00s cost a fortune, just like the Dutch generation one with Rijkaard and van Basten which was only rivaled by Cruyff's Barcelona in terms of expenditure.

yea that one is sick.

i've never really been all that impressed by knuckleball long distance goals. they happen all the time and are sort of a byproduct of how balls are manufactured these days.

Bergkamp vs. Argentina. There is no goal I have a more vivid memory of. Its timing and the cracker of a game that preceded it made it all the more special.

That was radio commentary. The commentary on Dutch tv at the time was crap. Everyone was going mental though so it didn't matter.

One of my all time favorites. Don't think there's another player who's capable of scoring that. Not one that's playing now anyway:

Henry's flick and volley against Utd is probably right up there for me. Think everyone has seen it so many times that people get a bit blasé about it, but that was a genuine moment of genius. Incredible to even conceive of that way to score from where he received the ball, let alone execute it perfectly.

Probably one for the original hipsters this but does anyone recall Julian Joachim's goal against Sheffield Wednesday back in the day?

25 yards out he took a complete air shot, the crowd then went "wheeeeey" he then sets himself and smashes it in, past the keeper before he knew anything about it. Proper "hav that" goal

Agreed. There hasn't been a goal scored like it since as I can recall. Sure there have been flicks followed by smashes I.e Pedro Mendes v Charlton a number of years back but Henry's was just pure deliberate. To get the ball in over the keeper with such a controlled volley - it's something else.

Henry's goal vs West Ham at Upton Park in 2002 was unreal as well.

It was but again that was a smash if you see what I'm saying. The way Henry volleyed it against Man U sets it apart.

No, I was being sarcastic.

It's a phenomenal goal. No other player bar maybe (and I really mean maybe) Neymar has quick enough feet to chop the ball properly while surrounded by so many players. And then there's the task of striking the ball with enough pace to beat the keeper from 18 yards through four players and an opening about a foot wide.

Gif doesn't make it justice to be fair. Half the point is that it's so unpredictable. It was terribly impressing when I saw it in real time during the game though. It's one of those things that is impossible to defend against. Too quick, too clinical.

i remember being amazed the first time i saw that goal. but in recent memory, even the Wilshere goal was more memorable than that
