Meh. How does mentioning him as a viable option immediately open a discussion weather he's better than Giroud? That's not even the point here. We need better than Bendtner and he certainly is. We need someone hungry to make the step up from a weaker league. He probably has that. We need someone who would be gettable for _£10m-£13m. He probably is.

Im not even hoping for a Suarez or anyone similar in January. Its not realistic.

Arsenal couldn't agree a deal for Kalou in september and had to settle for Özil. But strings are still being pulled behind the scenes.

You may be right, as i don't watch the Greek league, but when we played these guys, a couple of years back, the man came on as a sub and caused us all manner of problems. Very average, he certainly wasn't and as his game is completely different to Giroud's, it would afford us another option when things are not working.

I suppose its natural but people are always somewhat dismissive of players from weaker leagues. I remember when we were linked to Falcao circa 07 or 08 when he was still at River Plate and the response from fans was very lukewarm. How differently things turned out...

Holt caused us problems many times as did Kevin Davies. His best seasons before this are 20 in 42 and 19 in 39. Considering the league he plays in that is average. I wouldn't want any money spent on this guy given that we have money and prestige for much better players. Knowing Wenger he'd give a guy a like this a lot of time to justify his talent and having him and Giroud up top isn't exactly top quality. Personally I'd go for Benteke, Michu or some other proven player who'd still be available at the right price and play in the PL already.

Yes we miss out on a few as does everybody. But right now we need a top quality striker. When you have the money to buy one, have the appeal to attract one and don't have one in your team then it makes sense to purchase one.

Michu and Benteke are not top quality strikers nor would i spend more than £10m on the first and £15m for the other.

Unlike Mitroglu, i do not think we have much hope of prizing them away from their present clubs without spending a fortune. Also Kevin Davies did cause us tonnes of problems as he was one of the best at what he did, so i don't get your point. As for Holt, i do not get you.

I soooo wanted us to sign Kompany back then! Looked a top prospect for sure.

Kompany was making so many big errors he was literally given the end of the season off. Mixed with injuries he was a huge risk but given city's unlimited funds it was a no brained for them.

Finding it hard to picture anyone worse than calamity Senderos and perma-injured Djourou.

10-15m would get you very little in todays market. I even doubt your Mitroglu would come for that. The main point anyway is that you buy the best you can with the money you have. IMO those 2 are better than Mitroglu. Both got more goals here last season than Mitroglue scored in Greece last season or any season prior to that.

The day Giroud scores 20-25 league goals is the day he will be good enough for us. This is probably the most creative midfield setup behind maybe Barcelona. If somebody comes in or we can bring somebody better than I'd rather that player play for us rather than going down some sentimental route. The point isn't about spending a fortune. The point is they are better. We don't need to go down some bargain-bin route anymore. If one has the capability, resources and appeal to sign better players than one does it. Mitroglu plays for a club in the champions league so they wouldn't sell for cheap either. In fact the likelihood of Benteke and Michu forcing a move is more likelier.

The facts are-

1) Mitroglu is not proven here in England. Them 2 are.
2) Mitroglu scored less goals than Michu or Benteke last season despite playing in a worse league.
3) Mitroglu is cup-tied while those 2 are not.
4) Those 2 are more likely to force moves than a player whose club will likely be playing in the knockout stages of the Cl.
5) Mitroglu is supposedly one of the better players in this Olympiakos team. Why would you assume he'd sell for a significantly less amount than Benteke and Michu when his club plays in the Cl and especially are likely to be in the knockout stages?
