£12+3 million is a brilliant fee from Bolton's perspective for a player like Cahill. No one except us have even tabled a bid this summer. They should be biting our hand off for that kind of money.

Look at what we're faced with as regards our back four today.
Seems that Wenger will use Vermaelen as back-up in the left back position throughout the season.
I'd prefer Cahill alongside Koscielny than Djourou.

When you consider how many games Squillaci ended up playing for us last season Cahill will be worth every penny.
Plus he scores the odd goal too.

exactly. signing cahill gives us depth at cb that we havent had since 2004

It's not high on my list of priorities, but I wouldn't mind a better player than Squillaci sitting on the bench.

i think we should buy a LB, instead of moving our best CB to LB, but that's just me. (we also need a backup RB, maybe lansbury can do it? feels like we're wasting a useful talent there)

i also think another manager would get more out of djourou, who has been our best defender for prolonged stretches, and is in a horrible run of form. while i'd like to have bartley as 4th choice instead of squillaci, i understand sending him out on loan so that he comes back a fully-formed player with no need for development.

frankly, i think changing the coaching would have more of an impact than making a signing. but in midfield and attack, we definitely need some big, big signings.

Yes, yes, yes. You could put Vidic in this team and we'd still suck. Look at Ferguson getting Phil Jones and Smalling and they're pretty much class immediately. That's not only down to the players, but also the coaching, the tactics and the player-specific instructions. Something we apparently lack DESPERATELY.

I can't believe a player like Santon is on the move and we're just sitting here and waiting for the transfer window to end. He's a bit injury prone I suppose but certainly not more so than Gibbs, and he's got way more potential. And his current level is much, much higher.

Jenkinson is a kid that ordinarily would see very little football. He's a backup right back and most certainly wasn't our worst player on the pitch today. He gets far too much stick.

He was utter shit. To his credit he had a fine game against Udinese though.

And at least he played with heart for the whole time he was out there; he's just an average player. Traore, on the other hand, gave less of a fuck than George Bush.

It's hard to hate on Jenkinson no matter how poor he is. If he had a half decent team around him and a manager who realised he needed protection he'd probably look less exposed today.
