Not entirely. Ramsey likes trying to draw fouls in that area of the pitch. Has won a couple of penalties doing that, most recently against Macedonia.

Only reason it looks pointless is because there's only one player in the box. Hardly Ramsey's fault that he can't play it to anyone. He's giving them extra time but no one makes a run.

He draws 4/5 players anyway. Had Cazorla been in a better position, Gibbs could have played it across for a first time shot from the edge of the box after receiving from Ramsey.

there was always only going to be 1 player in the box. he should've either actually taken on the defender and won a corner, or just passed it back to gibbs immediately to either circulate the ball to someone else or play a cross.

but i agree it's criminal that palace has 6 defenders in the box and we have just giroud in there. but that's what happens when you play a very midfielder heavy lineup. none of those guys really want to be in the box or have any poacher's instinct.

You don't need poacher's instinct to show up for the ball. Plenty of space surrounding the referee in that gif. Looks like it's Özil who doesn't back them up. Ramsey himself would have made that supporting run.

Intelligent positioning by Gnabry there.

We don't exploit the space between the CB and FB nearly as much as we should. Was bread and butter stuff for some of our past teams.

P.S. There's no need to quote gifs. At least not on the same page.

Indeed, fantastic technique. Still feel his cross field passing is rather inconsistent, both technically and the fact that he doesn't switch play often enough. Hopefully it's something he improves. Need to find as many ways to get Özil the ball early as we can.

Özil was magnificent to watch btw. Probably been mentioned before, but needs repeating!

That is a great pass to Jack. Agree with Volly that Ramsey's technique is a little inconsistent when he hits long range passes. Prone to hooking them.

Ramsey had a pass over the top too which I have only seen Michael Laudrup play with any regularity.
