We had the money for Hazard, we've always had money, just didn't want to spend it.

I can understand Wenger going nuts and smashing our transfer record on Mesut fucking Ozil, but I can't see him spending £38m on Draxler. I reckon he would have the same reservations he had in regards to Hazard. A shedload of money on a young player with potential.

Anyway, maybe we will sign Draxler, but I'd be shocked to be honest. In light of the Ozil transfer, splashing out on someone established like Suarez, Benzema, or Reus, wouldn't surprise me though.

I don't think that's true. Do you think it's coincidence that we bid 40-45m for Suarez and signed Özil for 40m+ last summer after locking in a new deal with Emirates and also a deal with Puma for 2014? Or did Wenger just suddenly decide let's shatter our transfer record?

Hazard made it clear he was off to the highest bidder, and when that involves Chelsea and City we were never getting him. Don't doubt that Wenger would have spent big if we could have got him though.

that would mean we were run by the most pessimistic fools if they had to wait for a new shirt and kit deal. i mean really, because there was a big chance arsenal wouldn't get a big increase from their pathetic existing deals. certainly would reflect an exquisite business mind.

what was decided was that it's mesut ozil. there is nothing common about a player like him becoming available. young hot shots at smaller clubs are much more common. you can talk yourself out of going after a hazard because it's risky and yeah chelsea can afford to take a risk like that on wages and transfer fee, but can we .... and they go back and forth and just decide we can't compete with such an offer.

Ozil is a "super super quality" player, he's always said that he would pay what it takes if one became available. Reckon Gazidis was pushing him very hard to make a marquee signing too, that much was obvious from his comments throughout the summer.

Wenger did say we were in for him and that a few clubs were willing to match his release clause, but also hinted that Chelsea offered him the best wages hence why he joined them.

i doubt we will splash on draxler and a proper striker, thats like 70-80 mil..signing ozil doesnt mean we will be spending like this on a regular basis now

Remember the Puma money will be available this summer in addition to the Emirates cash. We can do 70m along with getting Frimpong/Djourou/Park/Bendtner off the books and selling a first team player.

I got a feeling this might be Podolski's last season here, if we're in for Draxler I think we'll try a swap deal with Schalke for him like we did last summer.

Also believe Vermaelen will leave as well so both of those two should fetch us at least £25mill if not more. Need to invest the money for Vermaelen in possibly two CBs, hopefully we'll keep hold of Sagna if not will need to spend some money there to get a replacement.

Not quite true. Read an in-depth interview of Hazard and he said all 4 clubs did match all the demands, but he chose Chelsea because they just won the UCL.

Hope we don't let Podolski leave. He might not be good enough as a weekly starter but is still a very useful squad player to have. By all accounts he is good for the dressing room too.

Tello and Cuenca are shit, no chance either makes it at Barca. Sergi Roberto is a midfielder. Probably the closest thing to a box to midfielder they have. Don't think he has the technical ability to make a place for himself at Barca though, his first touch is weak compared to the other players.

That puts an end to the Diego Costa rumour surely? No chance they are letting 2 strikers go in a window.

Gunnerblog claims we rejected Baptistao in the summer. Never even heard of that link before

Apparently Ntep is on his way to London. Freddie Boswell (pro scout) says we're signing him and loaning him right back. He's been known to chat shit though.

do you think our executive team was worried that no one would sponsor our kit or buy the naming rights to the stadium?? i don't think it had anything to do with it.

I'm with Volly here. Our board don't spend money until its locked in. Not a terrible policy itself. Its when they sell the likes of Fabregas and don't reinvest the money that it becomes a problem.
