Michael Ballack believes Mesut Ozil will be a big success at Arsenal after his compatriot moved from Real Madrid. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger made Ozil his second close-season signing for a club-record fee from Real Madrid on transfer deadline day, and Ballack thinks he has all the attributes to do well in the Premier League.

The former Germany international - who spent four years in England with Chelsea - sees Ozil as the kind of player who can change games for Arsenal, helping to end their eight-year wait for silverware. "Mesut is a young player and at his peak," he said. "He is an outstanding player, who joined a new club, I don't think it's a problem (being nervous about playing in England).

"Arsenal is a great club, one of the best in the world and paid a lot of money for him. That proves his exceptional standing on international level, this amount is not common, especially for Arsenal.

"I really hope everything works well for him, he will be an addition to the league especially with his technical skills and pace with the ball. Ozil joins fellow Germany internationals Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski at Arsenal, and could make his debut on September 14 against Sunderland.

Speaking to Al Primer Toque, Fabregas said: 'He is going to enjoy the Premier League an awful lot. It is a league with much more space and Ozil is a player that, given time and space, he will kill you.

'As we have already seen from his time at Real Madrid, his final ball is brilliant and I believe that he will really enjoy himself in England.'

Interesting that he feels the Premier League has much more space, I wouldn't have thought so watching the games. I guess playing for Barca he pretty much faces a wall of 10 week in week out, particularly with their style of play.

I think Fabregas is referring to more teams playing on the counter, with more of a seesaw motion to the game.

You know what I miss? Those counter-attacks that Vieira or Edu would launch at the top of our penalty box to Bergkamp with Henry, Pires and or Ljunberg darting ahead to finish the move before the opponent had figured out what was happening

We've been countering pretty well this season to be fair, and in patches last season. In fact often the only thing that's been missing is the final ball.

Yep, I think we've been turning defence into rapid attack very well so far this season.
It's been great to watch at times.

me too. there was no slowing down in those moves, either. it'd be 4 guys sprinting 50 yards into the box, 4 passes with no one breaking stride, a square ball and a quality finish.

agree with this. we're catching opponents on the hop with our counters, but it often fizzles out after 3-4 one touch passes. having ozil will improve this immensely.

Fizzles out due to quality, i think. watch guys like Oscar and Neymar on a counter. They're irresistible. We need a bit more quality than just Ozil and Cazorla to counter effectively like this. The likes of Reus, Suarez, etc are needed on the team. Maybe a little bit healthier Podolski, and a little bit more super quality decision-making from Giroud/Walcott would help.

Pretty much spot on, Claud. The final pass has been the issue, but the trouble's been the guys controlling it as much as the passing.

Giroud will never control a ball, take a couple of touches on the run, and score in a close-ish sprinting contest the way someone like Henry could. It's just not his forte.
