We convinced, by many accounts, the best number 10 in the world from arguably the most prestigious team in the world to a club that many Arsenal fans, including yourself, constantly deride due to our lack of success and ambition over the last 8 years. Regardless of whether or not you want to credit Wenger for that, lets not dress it as an ordinary transfer that was simple to execute.
lack of success and ambition is wenger/gazidis' fault - it's perverse to give them credit for signing someone in spite of the damage to the club's reputation that they themselves caused. surely this is not debatable.
re: having money to spend on ozil, see above. if you want to give wenger/gazidis credit for running a net transfer spend that is 20th in england over the last 9 yrs, then great. don't bitch about the squad or lack of trophies then, since you're on board with profits being more important than acquiring great players.
players have also gone to other teams to work with klopp, mourinho, guardiola, laudrup, prob even redknapp! but lets just ignore that, and that ozil knew madrid wanted him gone to pay for bale, and that we offered him huge wages, CL, life in london and the premier league.
one guy finally signs, and that overrides 9 yrs of no big signings (besides benzema this summer, who else refused to come here despite wenger's pleas since 2004?) and proves wenger is a transfer market asset?
it's unbelievable, the guy makes 1 signing and some people here get stockholm syndrome.
