Circumstances change.
I guess we were planning with Podolski in mind, and the nascent idea of a big swoop for a striker this window at the time Ba was available.
Thwarted trying to get a striker, we switched our attention to a world class playmaker, so that with the benefit of hindsight, and in light of Podolski's injury, Ba seems like an opportunity missed.
Yesterday if it was really about our £1.5m offer vs Chelsea's £3m asking for the loan fee, that's quite a bit more disappointing to me. Surely it would've been worth a bit extra to have had real competition for Giroud and Walcott for the next six months while Podolski convalesces.
The only hope there now is that Sanogo gets over his butterflies and becomes productive immediately, and it doesn't look likely.
On the bright side, our lack of forward options could actually work in favour of Theo and Olivier's form, and they're both as good as they've ever been at the moment.
