Arsene Wenger has made a desperate last-ditch move to sign German wonderkid Julian Draxler.

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis was at the club’s training ground yesterday trying to seal a deal which would ease the pressure on manager Wenger before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday.

Wenger has major reservations about the price but Arsenal have made contact with Draxler’s club Schalke and are believed to be willing to pay around £40m, although the German club are demanding an astonishing £60m.

Arsenal have also been offered Real Madrid’s veteran Brazilian Kaka as they look at deals to thwart a fan revolt because they have yet to spend a penny and have so far spent NOTHING in the transfer window.

It is understood that Arsenal’s interest in Yohan Cabaye has now ended after they told Newcastle they will not pay more than £12m.

Is he even worth 40m? I watched a few matches of him in the past year and he does look to have immense potential, but if we wanted him we would have gotten him for 30m before he signed a new contract.

Anything up to £20mil early in the window for this kid and thats all good, he has a release clause @ £38 mil be doubt its active before a set date like next year at the earliest.

Plays mainly on left - we're extremely short there until xmas atleast. Is 6'2. Great technique. Great shot. German international (one of the hardest teams to get into) at 19. Same talent bracket as Götze but better built for PL. No brainer.

It all depends if the new £40m (€45m) buyout clause is (still/yet) in effect.

If Wenger was the slightest bit interested he would have bid (a pound over) the clause in June. What's the point of waiting until it's expired then being asked to pay more? This way he gets his wish as he can make a lowish bid which is rejected then say "we tried hard, but the club didn't want to sell."

We have been interested in Draxler since 2010, he isn't a last minute buy and I can't see why we would fail to stump up £25 mil for Lamela then go and bid £40mil on player that doesn't want to leave playing for a club that doesn't want to sell.

For some reason he reminds me of a young Joaquin. Don't know why. But I like the look of him. Would happily take him. Can understand why he wouldn't have been a first choice at 40m pounds two months ago, but might be worthwhile now as we are left with no options

We've been interested in hundreds of players, doesn't mean you bid on all of them.

Which is my point, this isn't part of any plan, this is us bidding on anyone and everyone.
