Arsenal have resigned French midfielder Mathieu Flamini on a free transfer from Italian side AC Milan. Flamini has signed a three year contract worth an estimated £50,000 a week, a significant increase in wages from what he was earning at Milan. Before playing for Milan, Flamini was a regular at Arsenal from 2004 to 2008, earning 102 caps and scoring seven goals. According to sources close to the club, it is unlikely that Arsenal will make any further additions after the Flamini deal is finalised.

So if 50k p/w (as a free agent mind you) is a significant increase on what he was getting at Milan, which he is supposed to have left us for because we were paying him much less- wtf? Was he playing for us for nothing the first time? 😆

Thats his second contract at Milan. The first one, predictably, was about to run out and then they came to an agreement for another year.

He was on much more at Milan, but that contract expired and Milan were unwilling to offer him a new contract on similar wages. It looked at one point he was leaving, but he changed his mind and signed a year deal on much lower wages. Now he's using Arsenal to get another top contract - they guy is a businessman. He'll sign for another club on a free transfer in 3 years time.

Of course Milan fans would want him to stay, they've accepted having the likes of Muntari in their starting line-up, why wouldn't they want Flamini as a sub?

17m on Gustavo or Flamini for free? Easy choice for Wenger.

'Special player' number 1 is in, can't wait for the rest :erm:

I seem to recall when he left us he was only on 25k or so per month, not week.
