Watching Chelsea and United this week makes me really wonder about our mental state. The same Arsenal that went out to play Bayern in the first half last week and Sunderland over the weekend would beat both of these teams. But we never do it. Wenger sends us out with a negative approach and we just never get the belief.

It seems pretty obvious that the dead leg talk from Wenger is just a cover. He did the same thing around New Year with talk of a shoulder injury in order to give Özil some extra rest.

Wenger did say that he wasn't over the penalty miss and needed time to get over it, which is not to say that he's mentally weak, just a nod to the possibility that his dead leg was not the only reason that he was rested.

"A penalty is part of how you feel and how much you want it. At the moment we have to let Ozil recover, it is part of the job to get over disappointment and show how you respond."

With all due respect - who cares what you, or any tabloid journalist working for The Mirror, suspects? People without agendas or axes to grind usually don't question information if there is no reason for it, other than the fact that it doesn't seem to align with their own version of an event. It's how you avoid confirmation bias.

Real Madrid cruised through that match, Schalke were so unbelievably poor tonight.

Di Maria was fantastic for Madrid, this new system of theirs works very well and gets the best out of their front three. Benzema really ties it up so well and his movement and dropping off at the right time gives C.Ronaldo & Bale the space they need to operate in.

Oh didn't realize that Jazz, still looked very poor though. Should've done much better with his chances too.

Klaus and Jazz, I don't have an agenda as regards Özil but I think you're both in denial if you think the only reason he was rested at the weekend was because of his dead leg.

As regards his strength of mind - the German public don't vote you National Team Player of the Year if you're mentally weak.
Özil will deal with this pressure but he's never going to give his more vocal critics the style of football or personality that they look for.

it's just my opinion. Wenger has lied about players before. no one would say who cares what u think if you wrote anything about Arsenal just because you're not an insider

It's the immediate reason. I don't think you have an agenda (that was poorly worded) but I think the conclusion is a result of confirmation bias. Why would Wenger openly admit to dropping Giroud one week only to then go and concoct up some shoddy physical reason for Özil's absence the next one? Why invent a physical reason at all when he could just say he's given him some time off to recharge?

And what's next? Does this mean that he will be benched in the next few games, or was he just being dropped for one game in order for Wenger to make a point that he then goes on to deny making in the press?

I think he would of been rested for this game anyway, he can't cope yet fully with the more physical nature of the league and like I said 3 games in 11 days is hard even for players fully settled in. Saw some stat that he has already played nearly as many minutes this season for Arsenal that he played in the whole of last season for R.Madrid. I think his physical condition needs to improve and it probably has, takes time for players to fully adjust.

Yeah was a very poor miss, he made a good initial run but seems to stall a bit in his run up. Showed some nice touches but R.Madrid dominated this game, not a good one to judge him on!

Ozil, or his PR team, mentioned the dead leg on Facebook too so its not just Wenger saying it 😐

I don't know if he has a dead leg or not but I'm sure some of the players have mentioned it as well, it might be one of Wenger's excuses but naturally people will want to have a go at him and look for further excuses to put him down after the Bayern match.

I never said he concocted the dead leg Klaus.
Based on comments such as the one below I still think he was equally given time out to recover from "the miss".

“Is he over it now? Certainly not,” questioned Wenger when asked to sum up Ozil’s mood. “Just 48 hours is a bit short to get over that, but it is part of this job to deal with disappointment and show that you can respond to it.
