It's pretty common knowledge that Arsenal touted Perse around europe for a cut price fee, Fergie had to make a long call to Wenger to change his mind, fergie said that the negotiations were very tough both with Arsenal and with his own board etc.

I think I don't know enough about what goes on. But in suspect it's more common for clubs to negotiate deals rather than accept the first deal that comes through. It depends on circumstances and the player aside from simply the value of the bid. For example, I'm reasonably sure we accepted the first bid we got for Gervinho but I wouldn't compare his circumstances to Cabaye!

What I do think is that if they call your bluff, you accept it and pay a reasonable compromise (instead of walking away like we did on Smalling, Mata and Alfonso)

Look, if he goes for closer to 20m quid then I maintain the 10m initial bid was pointless. It's not a big deal. I don't care what we pay. I'm just fed up of Arsenal's penny pinching. It drives me up the wall.

@ Tony, I see, I suppose I just don't understand why people are getting worked up over the fact we "only" bid £10m , as if Cabaye was worth a record bid from us straight off the bat.

Perhaps a better ball player and certainly better at taking a free kick, but he is not better at preventing players running through our midfield, and this is exactly the type of player we have 0 of in the squad. I´ve liked Cabaye since his Lille days, but he isn´t all that different from what we already have nor is he that next level talent that we were assured would be attainable - I don´t think Cabaye is any better than Arteta, for one.

Most decent players in todays market would be worth our record bid because our bids are so low. Like I said penny pinching.

It's what it represents. And to be fair i'm the only one who's getting worked up.
