If you tackle someone in the air in rugby you get blown up for a foul as you endanger the player.
In NFL you get blown up for tacking outside the field of play.
In football you can push a player in the air when he and the ball are out of play, can't understand how that is deemed OK or "just something that happens". football has some I the poorest reffing standards as a game, yes the English refs are generally better but the standards of the game are low. That is FIFA fault primarily but the game needs to address why refs (particularly assistants) can't make hard decisions and perpetuate stupidity such as holding at corners.
For me that is due to the madness of letting players talk to the ref in the first place. The Guy should be given a position of power in the game that is totally undermined by the constant barage for the players on the pitch. This is the only sport where this nonsense is accepted as part of the game.
