Podolski watching from the stands. He looks about as unimpressed as I am by them. Chelsea are winning every battle in every possible way. We're second to everything, losing the ball under their pressure all over the pitch, and can't get out our own half.

Akpom has every chance of making it here, he needs a few years on loan though.

Too early to say. Depends how he develops, and who's in the team when he's competing for a place. I think saying already he's done is premature (unless this is an assessment/prediction based on what one thinks he has in him. As I said, to me such a call is premature).

I agree that we play more experienced players nowadays, but where do get this idea that we'll invest big in strikers from, do you expect Wenger to leave?

I expect us to sign a better striker than the one we have and let no one leave. That, to me, means that Akpom is done at Arsenal. It's not about his ability, it's about the numbers. At any given point there will be three or four pure strikers in front of him, and then there are the likes of Podolski and Walcott. Added to that Wenger never seemed to rate him much to begin with. He's put his faith in Sanogo instead, who was so underdeveloped physically that we had to send him back to France for five months, and Bendtner, who has made half a dozen starts in the last two years.

Chelsea clearly far ahead of us in that department. The Youth system has really fallen apart in the last few years, shocking how it fell apart really. Lets hope Jonker and his team can sort this mess out.

Been doing some more reading up on it and the decline in our youth system has been going on for years now, not something which happened overnight. A lot of finger pointing at Liam Brady & in particular Carl Laraman as to why things have gone wrong in recent years. Surprise to many that Laraman has kept his job and will be working with the U21s

If you look at the players who have come through the youth teams to the first team squad in the last couple of years, then I think it is a massive overstatement to say our youth system has 'fallen apart'.

Only one top class player (Jack Wilshere) has come through and he made the breakthrough 3 years ago. We look poor at most youth levels and barely made it as a Category 1 academy.

BRady by all respects seopped the ball with the academy. We need to do
Something revolutionary with the youth setup to
Mimic those in Belgium
That consistently produce players from a small population. The managers somt seem to have a clue as to player development either. They can lose games, but there should at least be some progress in player development. Haven't seen much of that.

Apart from Wilshere we also have Sneezey who has come up through the ranks, and one would also have to count Gnabry. Not a bad return all things considered, when we also have Zelalem on his way.

They joined us when they were 16 so not sure we can say they've come through our youth set up like Wilshere or Gibbs.

I had noticed the results were sub par. Our youth teams also seem to lack physical power

How did our youth setup become so poor in just a few years? It can't just be Brady, because he was here when we won the FA Youth Cup in 2008 and everyone was praising the setup back then.
