Look at none other than Flamini for example who was going to be sold to Birmingham but stayed due to some reason, established himself as a key player and earned a 100k a week gig at Milan. On the other hand you have Jay Simpson. He was apparently touted the biggest prospect of his age-group but Arsenal went in and brought Walcott. Bad break for him but then he didn't make the most of his talent and last I heard he was in Thailand.
Freeman is another. Brought for decent money at a very young age and then released. Now working his way up. He's apparently playing well at Stevenage in league 1 and with his contract up in the summer he's a target for many championship clubs reportedly.
Jordan Rhodes is doing really well and wouldn't be surprised to see him in the PL soon. Loaned out from Ipswich to the conference, league 2 and then league 1. He's taken every step up by scoring loads of goals.
