I find it incredible that Wenger is being accused of not giving a young player enough chances. If anything, Wenger is guilty of not 'killing' them fast enough.

Sanogo is a much higher profile talent. His injury record and the fact that he was free isn't doing him any favours in the eyes of Arsenal fans.

Giroud's form through pre season and into the start of the season was so good.
He was a different player back then.
Obviously he was no Suarez, but he was a tough proposition for defences.

Don't think he's available. He's seen as a big talent and even made his league debut for Barca this season. An out and out winger, similar to Jesus Navas.

True....football like business is cutthroat but those who are determined overcome bad breaks too. Look at none other than Flamini for example who was going to be sold to Birmingham but stayed due to some reason, established himself as a key player and earned a 100k a week gig at Milan. On the other hand you have Jay Simpson. He was apparently touted the biggest prospect of his age-group but Arsenal went in and brought Walcott. Bad break for him but then he didn't make the most of his talent and last I heard he was in Thailand.

Freeman is another. Brought for decent money at a very young age and then released. Now working his way up. He's apparently playing well at Stevenage in league 1 and with his contract up in the summer he's a target for many championship clubs reportedly.

Jordan Rhodes is doing really well and wouldn't be surprised to see him in the PL soon. Loaned out from Ipswich to the conference, league 2 and then league 1. He's taken every step up by scoring loads of goals.

Let's wait till he fails or passes the test before we label him mentally weak as even an all time great, Bergkamp, went through confidence tribulations at Inter so, at his age, i don't think we should worry.
We are, naturally, anxious as we have seen too many of our gifted youngsters fail to make the grade, but i am sure Arsenal have qualified psychologists to make this assessment. It could even be a ploy to toughen him up early in his career so he doesn't get as big-headed as Bendtner.

I don't think we have seen too many gifted youngsters at Arsenal fail at all. That last step is always going to be the hardest one to take, and very few are up for it really. Youth development is always going to be hit and miss; you have to play the numbers game and give the kids a good environment to grow. I think we do that very well, and I think we have done really well actually when it comes to bringing through kids to make a real contribution to the first team.

I agree, Rex, and would like to add that it also depends on where the line for "success" is drawn.
To use 89's example, Jay Simpson may have a happy career in Thailand and enjoy a better standard of life than he, otherwise, would have had if he hadn't been developed by our youth academy. By that i mean he could have ended up, for example, a dustman struggling to pay his bills and only playing an equivalent of Sunday League football on Hackney Marshes.

I really don't recollect Jay Simpson being touted as anything. No one had any expectations of him. A few people who watched reserves over at AM thought he wouldn't be anymore than a Championship player right from the beginning.

Wilshere was one of them, I think the other one may have been Aneke. Not really sure on the second player though.

This was before the Milwall loan. An academy coach at Arsenal who has since moved on to a lower division club said this on another forum. Simpson was rated higher than Walcott coming through the ranks. I suspect he knows a bit more than your average AM member.

I don't remember Jay Simpson being touted as a future star. Unless you meant Jay Emmanuel Thomas? I recall him scoring a couple wonder goals for the reserves.

As long as we produce even one or two out of the latest batch of players, who are eventually able to stake a claim for a first team place in the future. I personally think it'll be worth it.

Ofcourse he does and he disseminates all he knows on a football forum. Average, respected AM member, regular match goer and reserve team watcher, a poster just like you, must be average certainly.

Anyways, I know little and just based it on what I had read just like you. No need to be so crude.

Also, Walcott didn't come through Arsenal ranks.
