IIRC Willock played RWF in either the CCup or Europa and was MOTM, & we already have Iwobi.

Question is now do we really need to sign a winger, particularly if it is going to cost us over 50m?
I know these guys are still young and still developing, but we've played 17 year olds as part of the senior squad since the days of Fabregas and Walcott.

Should we back our own youth so we can invest elsewhere in the team?

I think we do need a starting level winger for 2 reasons - (1) Iwobi currently is not at the level where he is an unquestioned starter; and (2) we should cut Mkhitaryan out in a yr or two. ESR is probably better off as #10 rather than on the wing and who knows how many of Saka, Nelson and Amaechi will cut it here. My ideal strawman would be to bring in a LW (say Lozano), let ESR take over from Ozil in a few years and let Nelson / Amaechi take over from Mkhi on RW if they can. Saka is anyway 17 and can take over Iwobi's spot if he is good enough in a few years.

I look at it slightly different as in we need a winger because we haven't got one, and a genuine wide attacker is almost automatically first choice over either Iwobi or Mkhi who are more AM types.
There's a lot of talk atm linking us to the likes of Pepe, Carrasco etc, and whilst IMO we need a wide man to balance the attack I'm not sure I'd spend in excess of 50m to do so if it meant we needed to compromise on quality needed elsewhere.

I would find the maximum money and spend. We found 110m pounds for Aubameyang and Lacazette. I would find a similar amount of money for a winger and central defender. That's the level of quality needed. Willing to compromise elsewhere, even if it means bringing back Ospina

yes to the last question. an elite or soon to be elite CB is the highest priority. we need to give the youth wingers a chance. we can't afford to do what man city did with sancho.

TBH I actually support the idea of a spending spree to rebuild with the quality needed to do so, regardless of the impacts re FFP etc.
Whilst much of the focus has been on the wages and the impact on our ability to spend, I think the fundamental issue isn't the wages in terms of an amount, but that the baseline for the FA's FFP was set so low compared to the other contenders.

It's poor strategic planning and anyone who tries to pass it off as moral / doing what's right and/or traditional values is full of BS.

Nagelsmann called it an 'educative' measure although he didn't get into any details. From the sounds of it it might be more related to his work ethic against the ball and backtracking than something he did off the pitch, conjecture on my part though

Red Balls are interested in getting him next season though, Rangnick is in charge at the moment and will be in charge of squad planning next season but it's unlikely he'll bring a player in that Nagelsmann doesn't rate. Nelson simply needs to step his intensity up it's what's between him and a starting spot at the moment, and if there's one thing in abundance at Leipzig especially it's physically 100% committed players

I think it's the biggest obstacle for Nelson at the moment. I've not watched the game in Germany but last season he was still playing in the senior team with the same sort of intensity as at youth level. He's better off coming back here and working under Emery next season.

He plays with a lot more urgency than he did with us last season but his concentration is not there, he fades in and out of games badly and his defensive contribution is piss poor. You can't carry a liability like that on the wing unless you have Dembele/Mbappe levels of attacking output

Why do you think so? If anything I think Emery might be as, if not more demanding of a youth player trying to break into the first team. If effort/focus is indeed his problem it probably wouldn’t be easy going for him here either.

Because I think he needs someone who actually has a real vested interest in persisting with him. Can't afford someone who gets fed up with his attitude after a few weeks then gives up on him. Also, Nelson himself needs more of an incentive, breaking into and retaining a spot in our first team is a much bigger carrot.

In fairness to Nagelsmann, I think he's dealt with him really well and has treated him almost like one of their own prospects. But that's not something you can guarantee.

I don't understand how a young player with any ambition finds it hard to perform utterly basic shit like working hard and getting back to defend when needed.
