Told you guys before of my concerns that Wenger may start tinkering with the team now that he has so many more options to choose from. We have now seen Ramsey on the flank for two straight games, and I personally think Wenger will do some more shoehorning. 🙁

Gundogan, Vidal, Khedira. Any of those three would do, need to cement world class talent into the team. Gundogan would be a good replacement for Cazorla.

Our 2010/2011 first 11 or our current first 11?

hard to say. 10/11 played nicer football and i think had a bit more firepower with that front unit of nasri, rvp, theo, and cesc, all of whom were capable of chipping in 10-20 goals. the current 11 is a bit sturdier, but less dynamic.

Based on the past 18 months, Khedira would be a poor buy

Personally think the fact that this is our best winning run since the invincibles, coupled with the fact that the run coincided with virtually our best XI being available to us, is quite telling.

The 2010-2011 team were big time bottlers and underachievers, so it's pretty difficult to compare talent wise when they showed very little consistency due to whatever reasons (mostly injuries IIRC).

They did beat Barca at their top though. Love Arshavin more for that goal than the 4 against Pool.

Should be comparing against 07-08, that would be quite difficult.

In 10-11 a best case squad was something like:

Fabianski
Sagna Djourou Koscielny Clichy
Wilshere Song Fabregas
Nasri Van Persie Arshavin

Current squad has a superior back five compared to those players in 10-11.

The front six is pretty even with our current lineup, 10-11 had higher highs and lower lows. The consistent work rate of our current crop is really valuable to us.

Our current team is better pretty much position for position. I'd take Jack from that 10-11 team. Maybe Robin, but he spent most of that season injured... What a fucking flop he was when you think about it. We pampered that asshole for 8 years and got a single great season out of him. He's up there with Wenger's worst mistakes alongside Diaby.

Van Persie's just a piece of history now. It wasn't really his fault or Wenger's he was constantly injured. He played really well for one and a half seasons, then he fucked off and played well for one season at United, and now he's done.

Individually that 10-11 front six would have had better performances than most of what we've seen from the current lot in an Arsenal shirt, but they certainly never once all fired at the same time. We've got actual synergy in the squad at the moment, and there are no passengers and no luxuries.

It wasn't van Persie's fault that he was made of glass, but Wenger definitely gets some blame for betting on him season after season. I'm glad it's history too.

I can't recall any of those players ever performing well for us at the same time either. Wilshere was the bright light in the 10-11 season. Nasri had a good spell and then went back to being a disappointment. Fabregas was poor and mostly injured. Arshavin was a joke. The two best players from midfield and up were Jack and Song. And out of those two, Jack is the only one who would be an actual improvement today.

I remember calling to get rid of van Persie years before he left and getting shouted down. His constantly lack of fitness held us back far too much.
