Heh, I remember years ago Capi waffling on about wingers or such shit, when I pointed out that peripheral positions were of less importance then the spine of a team he dismissed my knowledge of the game in the way he does......
IMO we've had no cohesive spine since 07/08.
The development midfield of 2008 was an absolute cluster that effectively ripped the guts out of the team, and AW has been struggling with his socialist 'collective' approach to Total Football and Player Intelligence ever since. He keeps adding more idealistic 'solutions' that whilst looking good on paper, only serve to make the waters more muddied/complicated to execute well, and are often compromises rather than directly addressing the fundamental/core issue.
IMO this is one of the key lessons that has not been directly addressed let alone learned.
