That's more of an immediate concern than having Jenkinson as back-up to Sagna

Sagna as cover at CB and LB then, and we still haven't sorted his contract
He's been 100% committed this pre season too.

Sagna is easily my current fave player. I cannot understand what the difficulty is with his contract!

Then again, the vibes coming from him must be that he wants to stay. Otherwise I don't think he would be here anymore.

We're offering him a contract which ends two years from now and he wants one more year, most probably.

He means a one year extension.

Should be offering Sagna a 2 year extension. He is a warrior and a role model, thus great value to the club even if he isn't first choice.

He is approaching the end of his career. This will probably be his last big contract. Possible he is demanding more than the club estimates is his value, thus drawing out negotiations.

He was very shit towards the end of last season.

There is a difference between offering a one year contract to a thirty year old and a two year contract. Just wanted the highlight that. I am not against keeping Sagna for three more years, though. But, ultimately it all comes down to the details of his demands.

At the moment, it looks like he'll leave for a big pay-day to one of the rich French clubs next year. May be his agents know that and are happy to see off the year unless Arsenal cede to their big demands.

Whilst on my run I got thinking about the squad. The first team is strong but we are just an injury to koscielny, arteta or giroud away from our level dropping significantly.

That simply has to be addressed if we want to compete on all fronts

So we have a first-team squad of 18-19 players. Numbers do not lie, we MUST buy 2-3 players. Chelsea, City and Sp*rs have 22-23 and United have 23-24 such players who you wouldnt hesistate fielding in PL.

Szczesny, Fabianski
Sagna, Jenkinson
Gibbs, Monreal
Mertesacker, Koscielny, Vermaelen
Arteta, Wilshere, Ramsey, Rosicky, Cazorla
Podolski, Walcott, Giroud, Oxlade Chamberlain, Sanogo

Every line 'cept fullbacks could use an extra name in there. If Wenger thinks about any of our youth players or as Diaby as suitable for this then we're fucked. And by fucked i mean scraping for 4th with Sprs again. And Sprs is stronger than last year. Unless they sell Bale.

I wouldn't count Jenkinson or Sanogo from that list as players I wouldn't mind seeing in a real game.

Think Jenks would be fine, wouldn't want Sanogo though.

You can get away with a Jenkinson if you have sufficient quality around the fullback position. I don't think we have.
