I've felt this for a long time, but Wenger seems to have stopped investing in "finishing artists" up front.

Probably more than one reason for it: fewer players of that type around (certainly at the top level), different and generally better defending, too tricky to carry players who can't really be starters and are generally luxury players relative to Plan A.
The idea of Hernandez is something that I think is tempting but ultimately he'd win us very few matches.
