"I'm very excited about the quality of the squad and when we get more players back from injury I feel like we'll be a force. We need to keep focused and build on our run. I'm sure we can be contenders."
The 23-year-old also hailed the impact new signing Mesut Ozil has had in the dressing room and more importantly, on the pitch.
"He's really enjoying himself. He looks very determined and happy and he's a humble boy as well. Coming from a club like Real Madrid you would expect a player to come with a bigger head on their shoulders but he's very down to earth and he's passionate.
"It's positive for us and a signing like Ozil is going to push our squad forward because you don't want to let him down. You want to perform for him and he will take us to the next level."

The players are starting to believe, which is great. In the past few years there has been a lot of empty talk about us challenging, but you just know they really didn't believe it themselves. I think it's different this time, it shows on the pitch.

Interesting comments about Özil as well. Such a vital signing for the club, in more ways than just his on-the-pitch contribution.

Apart from the obvious at CF, what positions in the first team would you guys like improved in terms of quality, and what positions are we satisfied with?

For me:

Left Back: Gibbs is just below my desired level for a fullback, doesn't defend or attack with enough conviction IMO. Answer: Baines-esque

Right wing forward: Yes, some of us love our Feo, and his pace is always a problem for opposition defenders, but this kid hinders us footballistically. Answer: Reus-esque.

I feel these are our weakest positions in the first team.

Gibbs is better at his position than Giroud for me. Gibbs is a top five leftback in the league, I don't think you can say that for Giroud and strikers, at least so far.
