When I assess the squad I look not only at positions where we're short in quantity/quality, but how being short there affects other positions and players.
At RB I'm confident in Sagna/Jenkinson but I don't like the idea of Sagna at CB as it means him playing a new position he's shown limited ability to play AND then bringing Jenkinson into the squad. We've then started two players in positions that they have limited first team playing time at, and worse in defense which I feel is the area of the field where experience matters most.
Further, can Walcott play with the freedom he's enjoyed over the last two seasons if Jenkinson is at RB?
I'd argue he can't simply because of how good Sagna has been at freeing Walcott. Two seasons ago Walcott was scoring or assisting every other game with Sagna playing RB, and in games without him that rate went to one in four.
So its not that we're short at RB but that other areas (CB) pull our limited cover. Clearly we need a CB then, and further so if you consider a fit Vermalean as cover for LB (with Monreal supposedly out and Gibbs still injury prone).
