Wouldn't surprise me at all if he was a little under rated abroad, but over here he's England's (newest) messiah. Think Joe Cole X 5. Joe Cole was shit for about 3 seasons before people stopped talking him up for the England team, so Jack would have to be pony for 15 seasons to achieve the same effect.

I'm not saying that he's not rated, or poorly rated. He's clearly highly rated. But even considering that, I don't think alot of people(both Arsenal fans and others) realize how truelly talented he is and what a high ceiling he has. Just seeing how surprised many were by his form when he came back from injury last fall was interesting.

I remember during World Cup 2010 England fans seemed to fall into the narrative of "why isn't Capello starting Cole, he's our only creative player." 😆 And no one in the media seemed ot understand why Chelsea let him go for free. That's proved to be a great move. Is he still even a Liverpool player?

It was very good for someone who was playing for the first time in over a year. 😛

Very poor after the Spurs away injury though. He didn't look himself at all.

There was a period of about 6-8 weeks mid season when he was, imo, our best player. The team was utter shite at that time though. He would be excellent for about an hour and then fade into anonymity.

Then he got that niggle, injury thing that kept him out for a few weeks, and after he came back from that he was crap.

I'm with Nela on Jack. I think even he's impact on this season is underrated (I don't mean "results", or even number of good games. more in terms of getting some belief back, stabilizing the shaky connection between defense and mid that was in the beginning of the year, etc.) Though nobody at all mentions him as an important factor for us this year, I think the effect of just having him back was pretty massive, and in a way we kept that momentum even as Jack himself faded. (and yes, I know it sounds crazy).

Jack wasn't very good this season, that's why. He either needs to develop some end product to warrant him playing at 10, or he needs to massively develop his defensive discipline to warrant him playing deeper in midfield.

Remember him putting a few immense performances soon after his return, especially that game where he was whacked all over the pitch. Faded as his injury flared up again - Very worried about him in that regard.

Yep, Jack was the best player for the team right from the time he started playing regularly to the time he got injured again.

I was worried how we'd do after he got injured in the Sunderland game in which we hung on in the end after dominating while he was present. Thankfully, we managed to pull through. But, Jack's influence for those two or three (?) months can not be understated.

I thought so too, was our best player in a number of games.

At this point in his career he doesn't make his team mates better though. By that I mean that our midfield has actually functioned better without him. Most worrying thing is that he too often tries a risky give and go or something when he happens to be the deepest midfielder. Leaves the midfield wide open due to poor decision making.

Jack came back and had a positive effect on the team for a while. Then he started playing like Diaby. He needs to cut that shit out. Injury or not he deserved to be benched towards the end of the season.

Wilshere is clearly a top, top talented young player. I can see why Wengie wants to play him at 10. He seems to have all the attributes to be a big hit there, and it leaves the team less vulnerable than when he is deployed deeper. However, he cannot have another season where he hardly scores or assists. We don't have that luxury.

Nobody's denied he's talented. He just needs to perform better. I'm sure he will next season.

Mannone's the answer. If Diaby and Eboue qualified as wingers than surely Mannone as a striker isn't completely out of the question.

Its not his fault he is played out of position tbh. And he is still struggling with injuries.

He should have done better in the 10 role. He's not a natural central midfielder either.

He only struggled with injuries after Spurs away. Between his comeback debut and that game he was mostly excellent.
